And this is why I only sub by the month since 2.5 rather than going 3~6 months bundle route

I can understand the frustration for those who bought subs months in advance as soon as they got the expansion; they're effectively paying for a service that they're not using especially since unsubbing is really not an option for them for a few more months

I'm sorry. But what else can you say to people that threaten to leave the game because a patch got delayed by an unknown time frame.
Back in MxO, we had a saying for people that did this.

    "You'll be back."

And evidently, they were. Same can be said here to all those that are crying and saying they want to leave. They'll be back. Those that actually were going to leave, would more than likely not make a hissy fit and threaten, and instead opt to let money talk, and unsub.

Pretty much this. People talk the talk, but few walk the walk.

This is very true, which is possibly why not much has changed as well (yet). As long as the subs stay somewhat the same..so will everything else haha.

I've just unsubbed from the game, the first time my sub has lapsed since starting in 2.0 beta. I won't pretend my opinion or sub is any more valuable than the next player's, but it was a disappointing decision to come to. I'm one of the "midcore endgame players" if you had to put a label on it, but really, I'm just a player. I dabbled in crafting, raiding, tried out each role in the trinity, participated in various side quests and seasonal events, and experienced much of the PVE the game has to offer. I've always just played the way I want to play since the start.

I'd never really become bored with the game, until 3.0 released. Were my expectations too high? Maybe they were, I expected a couple mix-ups from the 2.0 formula, maybe a fresh concept for the treadmilling conventions. Instead, I found all of 2.X's conventions layered on top of 3.0's new content. This had a cheapening effect on the content, the treadmill, and the rewards from the treadmill, leaving me with a powerful sensation of same-ness, despite the fact that I was playing and gearing a brand new class to the game.

It's hard to quantify exactly what turns me off. Having played since beta and following the schedule that endgame releases have had since then, it should be no surprise that there is a "new" form of alternate currency, a small selection of max level dungeons, a couple big primal battles, and a singular raid. As it turns out, this pool of content, designed for the "endgame" player, my bread and butter content, interested me so little that I'd stopped logging in day after day. I acknowledge the amount of content in 3.0, it's not insignificant, but the content that I actually wanted to invest myself in had so little draw that it made me hesitant to invest time in other areas of the game that already interested me less than endgame content.

I bear no ill will towards the game at all, or those that continue to enjoy it. However, with the content that I should ideally enjoy stretched thin, and stretched even thinner into next month, I'm finding I'll be better poised to enjoy the strong influx of new games around the holiday season. I don't enjoy having to take a break, I've invested myself into my character, the world, FC friends, but I enjoy logging in even less. I hope a future patch will address some of the issues I have with the game. It's really a shame that my playstyle conflicts with the current state of the game, but it is what it is. No amount of complaining or ranting will magically change that, the way I play the game simply doesn't satisfy me right now. I don't begrudge SE for taking a vacation from the game, I only hope they come back with fresh minds, new ideas, and make Eorzea a home worth coming back to.

It really is only an additional month. I am not worked up over it, especially since a lot of games are coming out in October (Dragon Quest Heroes, Legend of Legacy, Tales of Zesteria, AC: Syndicate).

The amount of content put into 3.0 was not the issue. Technically there is a lot to do. It is the quality of said content I come into question. Average players don't like Savage Coil and everything else is face roll easy to the point they are bored with it now. In turn also some have less motivation to do other content or level other jobs. Right now you either go very casual or hardcore, there is no middle ground.

You can put two or three things only in a game and make them last a long time if made well.

Also, yes developers do need a vacation. Just like you need one from your job once to twice a year. It is just one month over the intended schedule, and they did say first 10 days of November. If you are truly bored with the game, entertain yourself with another game. Unsubscribe if you want to not pay for just October.

technically, it's 7 weeks from the 3 month mark, and 3 months being the expectation they set via previous patch cycles and interviews regarding Heavensward.

Currently, CAD is pretty weak (15 usd = 19.9 cad), so I am buying game cards ($35 for 60 days). Therefore, I am paying $28.50 during that 7 week time period. That time period which I prepaid with the expectation that I would have new content to play during this time (again this is an expectation that Yoshi himself set). Anyway, people pay for different aspects of it, but to me that's 30 bucks down the drain. I no longer wish to dish my money out for this game and will just stick to F2P and pay money for single player games like Fallout, Starcraft, Witcher, MGS etc.

I posted this on reddit, so just copy pasting here cuz lazy.

    1. My understanding throughout this whole game was patches are on a 3 month window. So I was expecting 3.1 this week. Nov 10 is a 7 week delay. However, maybe I've been wrong that 3 months is the expectation they set? The 3 month cycle was actually referred to in an interview about Heavensward back in February iirc.

    2. In another interview some time ago, Yoshi said 2.0 was to set the basics and 3.0 would expand and spice things up. Nothing in the preview, nor the expansion itself, changed anything or added any sort of flavour. It's essentially a rehash of 2.x in a different locale.

    3. I feel that FFXIV feels like a F2P game tbh, but has an amazing story that I was paying $45 per update. That's a lot per patch of story content, but I figured I got other things out of it too. I'm not paying $75 + cost of heavensward for a content update, just because they took a vacation.

    4. Never seen a business let an entire team take a vacation at the same time? Also never seen a business let their team delay major releases of things for a vacation. If I just up and left for 2 months and said, hey this report you wanted this week.. well it will be there in November, because I am going on vacation with the rest of my department.

    5. Also, I would not have minded if they said a few months ago. 'Oh, btw, our next patch will be delayed by 2 months due to us taking a much needed vacation after the Heavensward launch." They could have said that when Savage launched at the least. Instead they say it now. Half way through a 60 day time card that imo has gone to waste.

Anyway, I am not raging. I've just already cancelled my sub renewal and plan to tell my static that I am done tonight.

    3.0 - Jun 19 - I believe they delayed this? can't rememember
So you can say the average is 3 months and 9 days from 2.1 to 2.5. If we go by that, then OK I'll give you 6 weeks delayed and only $24.50 wasted. That's despite the fact that Yoshi himself said that patches will continue on the 3 month cycle after Heavensward launches all the way to 3.5.

    3.0 Jun 19 (let's say 23rd, cuz 19 is actually early access)
3.1 Nov 10 This is 4 months and 18 days

    I wonder what exactly happened...
Going from planned 3.0 in May, to being forced to release it a month later with some parts not finished yet (alex, eso, scrips), job balancing requiring various changes in the two months that followed and bugfixes...
I'm guessing a big chunk of work was outsourced to some third party which didn't deliver, forcing already stressed out devs to work harder than ever to be able to release something at all.
I'm also guessing that they can't legally talk about what happened.
Here's to hoping that whatever caused the delays have been taken care of and that no new delays will happen after 3.1 is out.
