Something to keep in mind is Tanaka was also responsible for XI, the most financially successful FF ever. He clearly isn't the one responsible for 1.0 being the way that it was and anyone who thinks that he is needs their brain examined.
Tanaka also only played XI to show off, he didn't play for fun. You should note Tanaka was also the brains behind the downfall of XI which has been on a steady decline for years and got considerably worse since the introduction of Abyssea, which was his idea and he admitted was a mistake.
you might not like to hear it but he was infact responsible for the state 1.0 was in. his entire setup was a mess of "you do this" "you do that" and nobody communicated with eachother during that time. the result was plant pots with the same intense graphics as player characters. a world that was rather empty but still caused even decent systems to choke.
Mind you, I don't think bad of Tanaka I just think toward the end his ideas were skewed and going in the wrong direction.

But can we blame Tanaka for 1.0 being in such a dismal state before it was forced out? I think we can, yes.
abyssea as content wasnt "bad" , reused old zones (changed) with new mobs , and Nms to farm , the main issue with FFXIV post-abyssea was removing the level cap , making ppl OP as hell in abyssea ,that while fun for a while killed what made FFXI amazing, the teamwork.Tanaka also only played XI to show off, he didn't play for fun. the idea of "procs" red , blue , yellow , was a bit lame , cool idea poorly implemented imo...
dont get me started on the trial of magians...ugh horrible grind
Adoulin on the other hand.......ugh horrible expansion , the music as always is cool (pioneers!) ,but the endgame ugh.... the "fates" were fun , but hiting roots for 10 min.../bored

Expected since they did say they will be taking a break.
I am totally disappointed with Square for leaving 5 whole months for a content patch. Especially since they did this to us before HW came out.
This game is back to the spot we were at before HW. It feels so dead lately, people (including myself) log on do that bare minimum to cap.
The expert dungeons are so tediously boring, and with only 2 expert dungeons - into the future i feel this is going to be a continuing trend.
The story for the expansion and getting the first job to 60 was great, however the amount of content post level 60 is really lacking.
Its even horrible to level other jobs, it was a terrible creative decision to not allow characters to receive XP from level 50 content, there is no motivation to go back and do it.
I understand people needed leave, however anyone running a business would balance staff leave needs without impacting the service being delivered to customers.
To me it seems way more dead then before HW, at least then people had to ability to gear up all their jobs with WoD and farm the coil. Now there is...well, repeated content that people are sick of. ; ;
Zones are becoming very empty, FC's and LS alike...and I am on a high populated legacy server heh
5 months is a bit longer, everone love this game, that was why we expect longs 6 months until expansion, now this again? why? why do not spite the vacation in tree or four groups? I dont understand that =/
I'd assume that one big drop in productivity is better than a very sustained but smaller drop in productivity.
