Not really if a zone is big enough. If the zone is big enough there is no way a group can go through everything if another group is closer. Gear also does not matter much in FFXIV.

Also, if the players do that they deserve the loot. The other players deserve nothing. Its a contested zone. You fight other players for content.

Contested Content is fun and actually really popular. Just not something put into games these days.

However, the entire point of contested dungeons is its high risk high reward. If you try to plow through it fast you could wipe or get killed leaving another group closer to you.

I suspect that is because games are designed to be as inclusive as possible these days.

Yes, but there is already inclusive content in the game. The new raids. This content would be fun and a nice change of pace. Contested Dungeons are VERY different from normal ones.

Its not very friendly. However its not meant for the weak.

Contested Content if its done right usually survives a lot longer then average dungeons.

Other parties mean the content is more dynamic, which means its less boring.

That last sentence may be an obstacle to this type of content. FFXIV almost litterally goes out of it's way to encourage teamplay, cooperative play and friendliness. Preventing players from verbaly griefing others is why 'tells' dontwork in dungeons. I'm also not sure that the highly contested element pitching warriors of light against each other fits the game.

It is almost certainly not going to have anything to do with PVP. It's been left out of the translations but Yoshi-P basically emphasized that if you meet other parties out in the field you can chat with them and work together (チャットしながら進んでください). Zero mention of fighting them, and frankly it makes sense because it would be really stupid for alliances of 24 people to just run around whomping anyone who dares queue solo or as a small group lol.

Lol, you mean like HNMs in FFXI were? No one likes being locked out of content just because someone got there first.

Because removing RNG from a game has to mean 100% drop rates. *rolls eyes*

    Hmm, yes?
the droprate have to be 100% if you want a RNG free game. Make it 99% or lower and you will have RNG in it again.

That's not really true. You can have a setup which provides a guaranteed currency-style drop, which can then be collected and used to eventually purchase items. With a system like that you know that if you put in X amount of time/effort you are guaranteed a reward.

As an example, our two newest extreme primal battles use this system (expanse totem, hive totem). Yes, you're receiving an item with a 100% drop rate, but that item by itself can be used for nothing. You must accumulate several of them (e.g. 10) before you can obtain an item.

I'd rather have to turn in 10 totems than depend on a 10% drop rate. Sure, you can get lucky on the latter and obtain your reward on your first attempt. You can also get completely screwed and not see it for thirty attempts. That's what sucks about RNG: you can put in the time/effort yet still not have anything to show for it in the end (except frustrations).
