I don't want to clutter up my UI with even MORE abilities. The potency seems weak. In most content only the tank takes damage, if someone else does DS --> Medica II. Thoughts?

I think it's a good rule of thumb to have all your abilities available as a healer. If you haven't had any problems playing that way, stick with it. But if you ever need more hotbar space, here are some suggestions I've used.
You can set the hotbars to be smaller in your configuration menu, make them invisible (overlap the hotbars so you can still access the hotkey assigned to them), or use a macro to change the ability designations in your existing hotbar ('/hotbar change #' macro). I tend to go with the 1st and 3rd options because I like to see when my cooldowns are available.
DPS can get away with a much smaller UI than healers I feel. Some just have their combo in a sequence, so it's as simple as pressing 1 2 3 etc in order, and then they change the hotbar when there's a new combo needed (like for aoe).

In raids it's mostly used for an extra Regen on the tank but it's an amazing amount of extra heals for one simple, free oGCD. 800 potency is about 40% a tank's HP, roughly, if you're just throwing that away you're also throwing a lot of time to do mechanics, or MP, or time/MP to DPS.
Astlum is useful. Who doesn't like free healing even though the potency it weak?!?! At least you can set it down and forget about it unlike AST who have to channel it. Fre healing is good healing.
This is false.
Astrologian has to keep it up for a small amount of time. When dps jump in the bubble they get a regen that is more potent than White Mage's Asylum and has more usefulness since its a applied HoT. So they don't have to stay in a bubble.
True to an extent; CU can definitely be superior to Asylum in many situations, but it also happens that the requirement of having it be centered on the caster and dependent on party members staying put for up to a couple seconds for the buff to be applied mitigates its effectiveness somewhat.
I was referring to it more as on how practical it is to use. Astlum you can set it down anytime anywhere and forget about it. However yes although more potent CU is very situational.
Example A1 when the bosses are out, you can throw an asylum on the tank and forget about it until off CD. CU you can do this unless you want to get cleaved and not be able to cast. CU is indeed stronger but is more situational and therefore Asylum is still more useful, but when it's a time off stacking (ex. Mortal Rev) CU is better to use than asylum.
A good WHM makes use of all their powers, as a WHM I use Asylum as much as I can - on the tank. I don't rely on it as a ONLY group heal. It's an extra regen for your tank which in return allows you to do damage, if you are the type of WHM that actually uses their full potential.
Regardless of the potency and whether you feel it's low, extra heals is always useful no matter what, and it costs no MP to you. It's literally a free heal. Cluttering up your UI, I'm assuming you're a PC user because PC users tends to have like 50 powers (I'm exaggerating) on their screen at a time... or at least Mr Happy does... as a PS4 user I use 3 crossbars, seldom do I use the third one. And the extra space doesn't bother me at all.
As I was saying about damage, this is more so in dungeons, and can be used in raids as you become more efficient and comfortable with heals. When the tank pulls a group and he gets settled in one place, I lay down my asylum, pop a regen, and a heal or two to get him to around 90+% HP, and if you feel up to it also can pop Medica 2 for an even EXTRA regen; I don't due to MP, I conserve my MP for dps and have no issues with heals whatsoever. Then once all of your regens are up, swap to cleric do some damage, swap back out of cleric when heals are required again. You're missing a good part of your powers by giving that up. As I stated, a heal is a heal, especially when it's free.
I use it all the time. I keep it on one of my L2+R2 type triggers due to the cooldown, only takes a sec to keep if it's ready and takes up no space. I try to keep it up as much as I can since it's free healing. Sometimes helps to direct people too if they need to stack.
