Massive Lag Spikes and some DCing for 4 days now

Did something happen on Tuesday 9/12/2015? I ask because ever since then I've been having horrible lag that makes doing anything in game unbearable. These spikes range from 5 seconds to as long as 15 seconds long. I have direct x 9, java updated, windows updated (dont have 10), no viruses, no other issues.

Can someone point me in some direction I can go to fix this? I dont have any internet connectivity issues either, hell Ive even cleaning my computer inside and out to no avail

My brother and I have been having the same issues. It started 4 days ago for us. We tried everything to try and pinpoint the issue but still can't figure it out. I contacted my net service in hopes they could help but they have had no issues. My router and modem seem fine, and my net isn't slowed anywhere but on FFXIV. We both played on PS4, so i guess it could also be PSN but idk. After running a net test 20 times, the speed seems to still be normal, so if anyone knows what could cause such an issue please let me know, thanks.

Test your router on another computer/connection. If you can't, plug your modem in your computer. If you won't, deal with it.

    Routers last about 2 years.

Thanks for for the advice, could have presented a bit less rude but i'll take what i can get. I tried all those suggestions though. Tested the connection on 4 different devices actually, and all showed high Upload and downlaod speeds along with a decent ping every test. So i guess my net isn't the issue, now how to test game servers and psn?...

Check your router config to see if UPnP is active. It has been known to cause issues on PS consoles in the past (as well as PC). If it is on, try disabling it. You may need to go into the PS network options and run the network test and such for it to "reset" the assignments as well.

Port forwarding is NOT needed in most typical home setups...forwarding is more a tool for dealing with corporate style security that blocks all inbound traffic on non-standard ports like web browsing and email. The router's built in NAT and SPI style security should handle things just fine (some have found things worked better if they tweaked router security a bit though...Secure NAT options and such).

Oh yeah, another one...could try disabling IPV6 support in your router (and devices if you have the option). Last I checked they aren't using it and the extra translation layer may cause some weirdness sometimes. Far more rare than UPnP or router security issues, but worth a shot if the problem persists.

May also want to look at your video card driver's refresh and buffering options on the PC end. Out of synch refresh/Triple Buffering/pre-rendered frames can cause some stuttering and a sort of input lag feel as well. The PS smoothing options may be something to try on the console to that end too perhaps.

Both my girlfriend and I have been getting massive lag spikes as well since about early last week. She plays on pc and im on ps4. We go right through the modem and I have no lag at all in other online games. Only in ffxiv am I getting this horrible lag. It has been on and off and ranges from minor lag to unplayable lag and even 90k errors. Being that it is happening to both of us and only on this game I really doubt it is a problem on our end.

Are you swapping the network cable between PC and console when you switch platforms? If not, than you are being routed locally---be that a separate router and modem setup, or a combo modem/router (which are notorious for having issues when they are provided by the ISP).

Local routing configurations (or an aging/failing router in general) can cause these sorts of problems just like they can crop up at any of the dozen or so routers you may be hitting on the way to Montreal. The troubleshooting process needs to start somewhere, and there are some known issues that can be checked for locally as have been suggested already-especially if the game is hosted on multiple platforms (ie: manual port forwarding can hose additional clients in a bad way, and UPnP can get messy as well). Once the potential localized issues are proven to not be contributing factors, then you should move on to a proper inspection of your modem's signal quality, head-end stability, and the route to SE's servers to see if there are any indicators of congestion or other routing issues along the path your ISP has assigned you (may want to bring in your ISP's Tier3 guys to assist if you aren't familiar enough with these items---not the guys at the help desk when you first call support, you want specifically Tier3).

***It should be noted that there is something BIG coming out from Apple....lots of preview downloading has been going on these past few months, and really ramped up this month. It actually goes live end of the month. Amongst other things like the starting of school and Football season, presidential debates, etc. that have caused streaming/research traffic to skyrocket (not to mention increased retail traffic as we approach various holidays this time of year, financials get more active as we approach quarter closing, etc)---the internet in general is just under increased strain this month from things other than just FFXIV (and these ebbs and flows happen all the time).

The process needs to start somewhere is all I'm saying....you are the one in "control" of your local network, so it is the more reasonable place to start.
