Let me start off by saying I've really enjoyed ARR and the story past HW thus far. However SE and company have been taking a lot of player issues and complaints and sweeping them under the rug for the longest time. Examples include but are not limited to player housing, lack of midcore content, lack of overworld content, side progression/horizontal progression implementation, and standardized dungeon layouts. I want to continue to enjoy the game because it has been a wonderful experience for me and my friends, but frankly it's time for SE to face the music and address these long staying issues once and for all, or take the risk of letting the vocal minority on the forums become the game's vocal majority. It's time for some tough love. ARR was a great foundation but those who enjoyed it or are continuing to enjoy it WILL become bored eventually and the subscription count will reflect that. That should not be an acceptable future for such a beautiful and well made game, but the responsibility of such lies solely on the creators' discretion.

** Dev team to look into adding more stats to armor with the expansion.
I believe he has citations for all his findings..its somewhere in thereI remember when they said it...Yoshida was saying he specifically wants to put the stats back in..and he wants to be careful about it, and might start with gear sets. But he said it will just take time because he doesn't want people all using the same gear pieces with the bonuses...something like that

Yoshi cares too much for image and not enough about adventure. If they put in as much effort put into quests and creativity, as they do glamour, weddings and freaking minion collecting we might have a fun end game to experience. This game doesn't even feel like Final Fantasy any more.

I guess peoples had way too high expectations, expansions are usually like this, few new levels and zones maybe new race/job and profession(i.e new crafting job)maybe one or two new features(like that airship one)and thats it. WoW expansions were pretty much similiar to this as both are themeparks, so i personally didnt expected much from HW besides stuff we already had previously with few new gimmicks(flying).
If we really want to see "new" game made out of this then we need to ask SE to drop PS3 support asap, that shit is hindering this game so much that its not even funny anymore, you saw what UI team had to do just so we can see TP bars? also Idyllshire was supposed to be open zone just like revenantstoll but nope. They just cant add anything super neat untill that support drops and that is what makes me pretty sad atm :s

I agree and I think that they missed a great opportunity in turning materia into more customization options for your characters. When I first started playing this game I thought materia was this game's version of sockets/gems/enchantment akin to WoW imagine my great surprise when I found out high level gear wasn't able to be materia outfitted and that all materia was static bonuses. I also thought that job crystals were going to be updated to have some in-combat use. I get that it's very hard to balance and that players will always find a BiS, but we desperately need more options.
I really miss theorycrafting for my class. There really isn't any here since there's just a set BiS with no customization in anything, really. Anyone play GW2? I could/did spend just hours standing still in an area cause I was too busy fiddling around with talents and setups to best suit my playstyle.

The issue is that their content, new and otherwise, has grown stale. It's no longer captivating in any sense of the word, and there is absolutely no motivation for trying to obtain any new gear (which is usually the sole driving force to encourage people to play) because anything obtained will be outdated far, far too soon.
I want to love this game. I really do. But it's really damn hard to find the diamond in the rough here. There is barely any dynamic to any content in FFXIV, and I feel that this limits the classes and jobs by design. There is no real need to adapt to situations, because the battles are so scripted and choreographed that you're pretty much applying a remedy to an ailment before it's even afflicted. Classes are limited to a "use this specific rotation of skills to maximize your DPS so you look awesome to your party". Every new dungeon feels like every other dungeon, just with different scenery and a few different mechanics. The loot in the dungeons is completely inconsequential. The tomestones are the only thing that matters. The same can be said for most of the raids. Trials are pointless, because the rewards are outclassed by other items which are much easier to obtain. There is no loot that exists within this game that possesses any sort of real longevity, except for glamour pieces. Why go through the painstaking process to obtain a Zeta relic? Why bother worrying about the "next relic" when it's been demonstrated that it will likely be outdated just as fast as the Zeta's were?
My first MMO was FFXI, and let me tell you.. that game was barbaric. You had to earn everything. Nothing was given. Starting out felt like a crawl. Getting to Lv20 and then making the trek to Jeuno felt like an achievement all unto itself. The Sneak and Invisible elements allowed for some hair-raising journeys through dangerous areas, where you were constantly looking for a safe place you could reapply your buffs if they started to wear off, because you knew that if you were discovered you were dead. And things lasted. I spent hours upon hours camping NMs to get gear that would last me from Lv30/40's all the way through to endgame (I'm talking to you, Mee Deggi and Mysticmaker). NMs in general were a thrill for the most part, the only true exception being the ones that had ridiculous spawn timers that were always claimed by people who used bots. There was nothing quite like the rush of sitting in Valkurm as a THF/RNG, keeping a wary eye on Widescan, and seeing the name "Valkurm Emperor". You leapt and used Flee and ran your ass as fast as you could to try to claim him for a significant piece of bling.
Say what you want.. but it was exciting. Getting things was meaningful, and time spent didn't feel totally wasted every time a new patch rolled in. Moldavite Earring lasted me years, not months. Why would I not spend the time camping an NM to obtain an item that will literally be a staple of my BLM for the foreseeable future?
FFXIV lacks excitement. Everything is tedium, and nothing feels worth it. The formula needs to change. I am not going to say that FFXIV "is doomed" or "is dying" because there will always be folks who look at it through rose-colored glasses and remark how it is the greatest MMO to ever be conceived, but I distinctly recall having much more fun with FFXI when I first started playing MMOs than I have ever really felt here.
But that's just my two cents.

Ima be honest, if ffxi had a HD remix and remash...I'd quit this game in a heartbeat. I realize they are targeting a different audience and generation with this game. Thats probably why they are avoiding making this game anything like ffxi. Why get the same customers you already have to play a different game when you could target different kinds of customers or gamers.
I dont know homestly. I like this game but if it remains this stale, i know eventually ill end up quiting at some point. Ffxi kept me for nearly 6 years. I dont see this lasting 2 years sub wise.
This, tbh I found abyssea ruined that game for me, I actually refused to uncap from 75 when that came out. Literally all ffxi needs is, ffxiv crafting system, improved graphics and cross server pf and that's it a perfect game. The shear amount of worthwhile content available in ffxi makes ffxiv look so ridiculous.Ima be honest, if ffxi had a HD remix and remash...I'd quit this game in a heartbeat. Everything in ffxiv becomes pointless within a week, personally I enjoy ffxiv and prefer it over majority of games out there, but am I completely happy with it no.
