I wait till afterwards. It comes very shortly after he goes back to his normal shape. I am still able to sustain DPS fine waiting for tethers to happen then use my WF rotation.A3S going into cascade phase, when to pop cds?
They all line up very nicely with the start of the phase so I've been popping them there, immediately at the transition after adds. But ferrofluid will come out midway through Wildfire so I'll lose a couple of GCDs being stunned, not sure if that's worth it, better to wait till after?
what ive been doin is start popping cds once the boss starts its "goinginsidethecontainer-ballthingymajig" and go with that. That usually makes me miss 1 global at worst and leaves me mobile on the next part of the phase.A3S going into cascade phase, when to pop cds?

i do it immediately. as soon as you see the core from the tornado reach its apex, i do my full opener. he bfb rs hc>hot shot>dex pot>leadshot and so on. with good timing, i only miss a split shot in wildfire, not a big deal.A3S going into cascade phase, when to pop cds?

Edit: This is why i shouldn't post at work. Played a caster for years and forget that GCD is triggered at start of spell. Oh well question answered, post removed.

Anyone have any tips for a new MCH in A4S? We had our Ninja go Machinist to circumvent possible issues with 3 melee so he is still adjusting to the class.
Across 13 pulls spanning 50 minutes, our DPS looked roughly like this: Monk: 1277, Dragoon: 1169, Black Mage: 998, Warrior: 826, Machinist: 821, Paladin: 672, Scholar: 367, White Mage: 152.
He is i198 with this gearset: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/RX4K
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am guessing you are pulling those numbers from logs? If so I would check the MCH uptime and if he is being pulled into the containment room as that would lower his damage and/or remove him from your logging due to possible range issues (not on a4 yet so not sure)Anyone have any tips for a new MCH in A4S? This might be a stupid question but does he know the right rotation yet? if not just show him, to this thread and make him also watch the rotation video.Anyone have any tips for a new MCH in A4S? Depending on how long ago he swapped It's going to take him a while...A4S is pretty tricky for machinists and if he's new to the job and new to doing it on a4s at the same time his dps will be crap (and he's only i198 which is kinda low). So that looks about right for someone just picking it up.
Also you should post some more information if you want more information...821 DPS means nothing really...If he's 821 at the start it's super bad, 821 after he's had to sac himself and still doing 821 isn't to bad though since he's a noob. Also shouldn't he be here asking for tips or looking at this and not you? :P.

The numbers I posted above were usually 2nd/early 3rd leg parses with a few quarantines. If the fight were to progress any further, and with my group's strategy of making the BRD/MCH sac 3x times, I would imagine his DPS would be around 500 - 800 for the entire fight. As for the specific tips I was looking for, I found a few watching Aiuri's POV streams. In particular:
- Dotting the adds/an almost dead leg would be worth it so long as you get 4 Lead Shot ticks off (12 seconds of uptime).
- TP Promotions after Manipulator goes invuln.
- Delaying BFB + Hawks + Raging until after Quarantine/for max Wildfire damage.
- Using Bishop turret (120 pot vs 80) to hit the Straf Doll + Leg you are killing (usually Leg 4, set #2 which is when the healers usually want Ballad anyway).
Situational tips like these examples are what I'm primarily interested in.

thanks for the guide!
and I find it rather interesting that doing your aoes + lead shot + hot shot does more dps than single target rotations on 2-3 enemies in dungeon. This is the only range job i've taken seriously so maybe this shouldn't be all that surprising.
Warrior is my main, but the complexity and excitement of MCH seems like something I might want to seriously consider. Especially since no one is giving them much love :/
