RNG is seriously the most evil thing possible in video games, when we need to rely on it. It does not discriminate, despite how much we want to believe so. It hates you and everyone around you equally. What's funny though, is what happens when you remove it. Let's take something like FFXI crafting, which is RNG torture (think overmelding materia RNG), and compare it to something like WoW crafting. RNG is not a factor in the completion of making something in WoW. The system really isn't much different as far as involvement goes with the actual craft process. You get the mats and all you do is click a button to make it. Yet, with FFXI, the memories, both sad and happy... mostly sad... are what stand out. The crafting system becomes memorable as a result because it played with your emotions, which for a game itself to be able to do that repeatedly, usually involves necessitating RNG. You're going to recall fondly of that time you defied the odds and won/made something to be admired for (be it by yourself or others). You're probably not going to recall much at all, much less anything positive, about that time you got that imp minion from the Chimera FATE in N.Than.
