I must respectfully disagree with your assessment of the current situation. A crafter that can only craft two to three items a week doesn't sound like much of a crafter to me.

That's not an accurate assessment of the situation. You can craft more than that, you just have to buy some of mats from other people.

A person with one L60 gatherer and one L60 crafter could earn red scrip from each, gather from favor nodes, buy purified coke/dryad sap/whatever, and sell it to other crafters for a nice income I think. Purified coke has sold for 500K gil apiece on Faerie.
