i think its because your looking at the RAW weapon.

yeah the new jade crook may not be that great, but add in a materia or two to it, then add materia to your mages armour and you will soon begin to see a large difference from old to new
Yes... but what prevents you from adding that very same materia to an Axe or a bow? Or ist the only difference between mages and melees now the size of the MP pool and the recast timers?

Edit: Oh! Oh! My mistake! You can't, since weapon materia is not cross-class compatible!

You're also missing out on wands and how the different elemental [tides and tremor] are weaker than the other elements, and that the elemental type affects a primary statistic. There are wands with +STR and +DEX

still though, materia WILL make a large difference to the overall performance of mages.

just get some stuck on there n test it out

i myself am a mage and found that materia brings it back up to par, also dont forget mage classes are being changed in 1.20

Hey, zzap, I found this on the battle mechanics board, I hope it helps.

    Stats And You!

Well, since the update we are now able to see our specific values of attack power, accuracy, defense, evasion, attack magic, enfeebling magic, healing magic, enhancement magic, magic accuracy and magic evasion. I decided to play around with some level 31 rings (+5 stats) on my 37 Pugilist and found out the following things about stats and disciples of war:

For every 5 PIE you get 5MP, 1 Enfeebling Magic and 1 Magic Evasion
For every 5 INT you get 1 Magic Attack
For every 5 VIT you get 5HP and 1 Enhancement Magic

Using up to 4x DEX rings for a total of +20 showed no change in Accuracy or Evasion. VIT showed no change in Defense.

On my 31 Conjurer I only had MND rings handy and found out the following for disciples of magic:

For every 5 MND you get 2 Healing Magic and 2 Magic Accuracy

If anyone has any other disciple experience with stats in increments of 5 please post and share your findings! This could be handy for understanding stats better as well as possibly pointing out something to devs. It may be a bug that DEX doesn't show any gains for DoW. It's interesting to know now that MND doesn't increase MP anymore and that it seams to be a 1:1 ratio for PIE/VIT:MP/HP. I'm assuming the +1 magic stats per 5 base stat on DoW would translate to +2 magic stat but if anyone can confirm, kudos!

I'll update this main page periodically with everyone's findings. Apologies if this exists elsewhere, I did search.

I want to see stats on weapons that are like "healing magic potency" or "enfeebing magic potency" get my drift? I think that would totally B.A. (I feel a lack of mage shoes and hands now [even though the new boarskin whatevers are sexy on stats] so I want the weapons to have some awesome stats to make up for the gear. I get it materia materia materia, but that in itself needs balancing, 1 piece of materia on a piece = better than nm drop, better than gear from dzamel, hrm?, I think two pieces for sure since success rate is like 24% for 2nd piece, 3 pieces and you're a god right? since like 7% success rate, but one piece @ 100% shouldn't be enough to make the gear better than dropped pieces.)
