That doesn't mean the 'newcomer' did the preparations the wrong way.

Different groups do things very differently. On A4 (have run it several times tonight to get a drop for a friend with bad RNG luck), I've had people marking out A/B/C with DPS people 'claiming' one letter. I've had people marking out A/B/C, then get impatient when I'm waiting to see if anyone's going to claim a spawn point before pulling. I've had people not do any marking at all. That's just a minor detail, which isn't really part of the 'strategy' itself, but it still shows a difference in method and approach.

Either way, if you say you're new there and ask for any pointers, it's fair enough for the experienced people to not have to give said pointers. But if they don't, it's also not fair of them to bash the new person for not getting the mechanics. They said they were new (plus you get the 'one or more players hasn't completed this' message), and when you have someone new (who isn't an alt of an experienced player) you really shouldn't expect to down it on the first try.
Right, but by watching the video (using your example), you learn that meteors cannot be placed any closer than roughly 10 yalms from each other (which is conveniently the distance of Cover) or they will explode. You also learn what "Stardust is", and what to do when you have a red or yellow mark above your head instead of running around frantically. Since you already know this, it's a lot easier to shift from the strategy you saw to a new one. Going in COMPLETELY blind makes players have to explain all of this to you before the group is ready to discuss strategy.

You're kidding, right? I'm guessing that must be a joke.

That's what the like/dislike system is there for. And that's why it's a good idea to cross reference guides.

People in runs are just as apt to give bad advice, at least with videos before going in you have a chance to figure things out better since you have more time to do so. The same goes for written guides. I use both for each thing I'm new to.

Edit: That said though, OP, they should have still taken a moment to explain to you, even though I agree that it's a good idea and considerate of the others to read up/watch guides before going in. By not explaining, they only hurt themselves as well as you.

Videos are fine, but you still need actual experience. First time runs are going to difficult because we're human and do experience anxiety.

OK well, I'm human as well as the OP. I don't know about the rest of you.

Of course. No one said you have to first time it flawlessly. But showing up without any prior preparation, not knowing at all what you should be doing, and expecting everyone else to educate you on their time, is... plain wrong.

    What happened to common decency?

Not everybody picks up a new skill through reading text or watching a video - others need to actually experience things first hand and then learn how to do something correctly.

As a tank myself I'm rather happy to explain tactics if need be since it serves as a refresher for myself - especially if I'm tackling content I haven't touched in a while - and because it usually results in a smoother run than letting new players run in blind. Paying careful attention to the 'new player bonus' is important - if I don't see it then I don't bother asking if anybody is new.

^^ Exactly the common attitude of what DF mostly made of, yeah. (above poster)
Most of them expect you to know every single bit, have watched the video and won't bother to explain a bit.
And your decision to go with your friend was the right choice. Congrats on the clear and choose carefully the accessories that you want from the quest reward, as gordian bolts are really pain in the butt to grind. :P

Btw, you still get hungry for Au ra?

Yeah I know, but if I ask for few things they must answer and not stay silent till a wipe then they vent their anger and frustration at me although I clearly asked before the pull.

Thanks buddy and I mostly wanted to do it for its story, gears are a bonus for me but Ill farm weekly lockout just to be ready for next patch and do stuff early before tactics are written up and before DF attitude change back.

Always hungry for a fine specieman of Au ra!

Ok first I don't know if this is the way you ment to writ this but no even if you say your new don't (never) expect people to tell you how to do the fight once your in. In an ideal world we all would hold hands and sing happy songs together (not me cause that's just weired why would people do this???). Short answer never expect help. No one has to give you the answers to anything.

Second really man leave our tails alone.
