Heck, assuming you've played that long, you'd have both the Veteran rewards and the Event items.

You're are acting like Event items are 100% akin to Veteran Rewards and they're two very different things. One is an entirely free in game bonus that you get on all characters currently made or made in the future, the other is either stuck in "Never going to be available again" or "Pay additional fees for this item on one character".
