Please can we have more info on EU Datacenter migration

So all we know so far is that one is coming within the next couple of months. Given its proximity I beg SE to share some more details with us.
Specifically I (amongst others) are waiting on where the servers will be located (so that non-EU non-NA players can judge which suits best), and will there be any free transfer service for those in the incorrect regions due to server restrictions from 2.x (before datacenters were selectable)? If not free transfer as such perhaps SE could consider something to lessen the cost if migrating to underpopulated servers? And of course, any updates on ETA is appreciated

Right now Im stuck in limbo as Im not feeling up to finding a new FC or Static if Im potentially moving servers. If some light could be shed itd help me plan and start enjoying the game again.

Ehh even when they do move I'm not transferring, even though my ping will go through the roof. I have too much invested on this server to bother moving to an actual NA one.

We'll probably (hopefully for people who want it) get more info before it happens.

I suspect ping will not be too bad for you if servers are western europe, since youd have to ping canada if you transfered anyway.

To be truthful im not as concerned with halving my ping as I am that when the community segregates further I wont be able to find Statics to run at a time that suits my timezone so that is why I would transfer. But I have 2 active characters, and a third for RP, which would cost so much

Ah that's true about the timezones.. I tend to play in the afternoon which is evening in the EU so it's not as bad for me, but...who knows in the future. I'm not too sure how active the NA servers are at night, so...yeah it can be hard. :<

I still believe they should incorporate some kind of High Pop > Low pop free transfer service, to get some new lifeblood into the smaller servers (and maybe alleviate the "everyone wants to go to Balmung" disease? If some RPers got a free transfer off that may help a bit).

Also good job keeping up more than one character, I can barely do that.... also what are they going to do about a whole week at most of not playing? My esoterics?? My red scrips??? I mean since it's data-center wide, it'll technically be a fair playing ground for everyone on Chaos but... still....

What I'd like to know is this: SE is saying that there might be several days of downtime associated with this. Is that downtime going to just affect the EU servers, or is it going to affect all servers?

Doesn't matter where they're located for me personally, as I'm from Eastern Europe. My Ninja will appreciate the drop in ping either way.

I believe it was said that the servers are in France. And there will be 3-5 day downtime for the Chaos datacenter while they move it over. As the EU datacenter is due to go live mid October a lot of people have been speculating that it will happen a week before 3.1 so that we all start with 3.1 nicely instead of somewhere in between.

As for getting people some cheaper transfers I think it wouldn't be a bad idea - maybe specifically for to/from Chaos worlds so that people that actually want to can do so at a reduced rate.

There's also this thread asking information for potential FC transfers. I really hope we get more info soon, since the datacenter move is only about a month away!

To my knowledge, they never mentioned a country. Not even possible ones. Can you point out where this was said?

If they do think of France, I hope they reconsider. No offense, but France is horrible for servers. I hope it's going to be Amsterdam, London or somewhere in West Germany.
