It kinda does use real world measurements.
Yalm = yard
Malm = mile
Fulm = foot
Ilm = inch
Ponze = pound
Onze = ounce

Although to many it probably seems odd that the American units would be used as a starting base for a Japanese game, but it does make some sense due to the commonness of the units outside the U.S. and how using metrics would seem bland given they are already used everywhere in the real world. It helps give Eorzea more flavor.
Not exotic to me. Canada uses imperial measurements. Of course we also use metric measurements. Many of our products list both. Just like how many of our products are in both English and French.
I wish FF14 copied one thing from SWTOR. In SWTOR if you clicked on a character or mob, over their icon it'd show how far away they were from your character.
Technically we officially use the metric system. We just informally default to Imperial when we to rough measurements since we're only a generation away from when we switched over. And in business, since our largest trading partner is still backwards like that.
Also, do we have any minimum ranges like SWTOR? Knowing how far you are tends to be more important when that is a thing.
Yeah you explained it better! Thank you.Technically we officially use the metric system. I'm not a big fan of SWTOR but they did some things right.
