EQ2 kinda had that with the epic weapon, but it was essentially mandatory later so they made a quest to extract the ability out of it...I tried reading through all of the prior posts, so I apologize if I missed someone already bringing this idea to the table. If horizontal progression or a hybrid of some sort was used, how about gear sets that once wearing the required pieces unlock bonus skills, not just attributes. I haven't really thought this through yet, but the idea seemed interesting and would be happy to hear peoples' thoughts.
It'd be nice if your AF gear upgraded every patch like the gobtwine etc idea. New Dungeons/raids/quests/trials all dropped a significant piece that when you have collected all the items, pass in the quest to upgrade your gear for the new patch. I'll admit tome grinding gets boring, I haven't worried about capping since myth was the thing and usually geared up through CoB or the new Alex fights(I capped eso just for the 200 wep).

I prefer horizontal progression to vertical progression. It allows more customization to a character instead of one constant best set of gear. It also means your content stays relevant for longer than a couple of months.

Hey guys! I hope the GMs and Yoshi P finally took into consideration how most of us are displeased with how the game is going now. They closed the other thread that was discussing why the game got so repetative pretty much what we are discussing here ourselves but with the horizontal progression touch. Do you guys think something will change or we are stuck with the same formula?

They tend to close those.
I know you like to think you speak for the rest of us, but you really need to learn that the fact that you're saying "most of us are displeased" does not, in fact, mean that most of the player base is displeased.
Even on your best day, it barely means the majority of the people posting on this forum are displeased.
And even if you actually were correct, your posts offer nothing constructive to the conversation, instead phrasing themselves in a click bait fashion of "you won't believe the latest post that no one has responded to!"
...which is not to suggest that someone who's a level 18 thaumaturge, with nothing else leveled, isn't in an excellent position to comment on the general status of the game.

Looks like we will be getting (some of) what you guys want.
The new Airship Exploration zones in 3.1 will have pink gear (with random stats) that will go up to i210.
Just checked reddit for more info about this and now im glad i kept building our airships, looks like this is going to be that "open world content" everyone have been asking for a while. Also it might give some of that mid-tier content we are missing atm in from of NM/HNM's.

The real question is how will this work with this games claim system. Will it be hunts on islands? Or will it be force pop and fight in tiers? Which would actually be good.Just checked reddit for more info about this and now im glad i kept building our airships, looks like this is going to be that "open world content" everyone have been asking for a while. But if its hunts on islands, nope nope and triple nope.

Nadirah: Some GM wrote thank you for your feedback we will close the thread now. I really hope something happens soon. As a FFXI gamer myself I wouldnt mind a challenge and a grind that can be rewarding and not like you said doing stuff over and over again for gears to be useless 2 months later.
