    FFXIX Add ons

Would be awesome to see add-ons come to final fantasy 14 that changes your fighting stance to a whole different look. Also maybe change the look of the hud layout. Been playing this game since beta and the game to me seems to be getting old with the same thing over and over including the expansion. Would love to have an add-on that changes the look if how you cast. Maybe perhaps for white mage instead of casting with your staff you can cast like how ffxi would be casting and never use your staff to cast. Or maybe cast with your bare hands and never use your staff. Also for the hud layout it can be slightly different. Like hot bar keys could be circles instead if square or something. Little changes like that can feel like a whole new game but your playing the same game. That I would definitely pay money for. Love to see my astro heal differently, look wise.

No need to repost if made a typo. Just edit your post. Doing so, also bypasses the 1000 character limit as well. As for addons, the last we heard about this was a good couple of months ago. All we got was that it was still coming.

They are never coming. Since the company is determined to have a equal playing experience on all 3 types of machines that can play this game it will never happen unless the addons are built into the game itself and not a user based addon like other mmo communities. I truly do not see this ever happening at this point and I do mean never when I say this.

Addons are coming eventually, but don't expect it to be unrestricted in what you can do with it. In other words, you likely won't see any DBM style addons.

Which means that people mostly won't even bother with them and it will be as if they did nothing. If they aren't useful then people will just keep using the third party "illegal" ones they are already using for timers and such. It's a shame, but consoles are going to forever hold this game back from its true potential. It's still fun, but I agree with the poster you quoted. We're never going to see add ons.

As someone who wrote addons in WoW, as long as SE puts some way to read the log or targeted mob's state (Buffs/Debuffs/Castbar)... you will see DBM style addons. Most of the fights are scripted as well allowing for timers. People keep saying "it will be restricted" but that will just mean you won't get things like Decursive in Vanilla WoW, you don't need much to make a DBM. The above events/info is kinda standard to make any kind of mod.

Consoles do not hold back the possibility of add-ons. Games have existed on consoles that allows for user created content to be added. Unreal Tournament 3 for PS3 is a perfect example. With the UT3 Ed software on PC, users can create custom maps and any kind of mod (including complete character/weapon model reworks) all of which can be compiled into a package compatible for PS3. All a user had to do was download the mod/map to a memory stick and then transfer to the relevant folder on the PS3 HDD. UT3 would then instantly recognize the add-on the next time you played.

A more recent example is Fallout 4 which is confirmed to have fully compatible user created mods/add-ons for consoles. Similar systems to these could be added to FFXIV (including console versions) it is by no means impossible. It all just depends on how the dev team choose to spend/prioritize their dev time.

A game script is a bit different than a level editor. I'd be surprised if Sony would allow SE to let people create modifiable code. I know Apple throws a hissfit for games that use a Lua engine or other type script langauge.

UT3 Ed contains a scripting editor, which a popular Samus Aran character mod utilized so the player could transform into ball mode. The mod also allowed users to take off the armour and play as Zero Suit Samus. It was a complete character model overhaul, a level editor can not do such things. However I don't think SE had that kind a level of mod in mind when they mentioned add-ons. Nevertheless such level add-ons would be possible, even with consoles in mind.
