    Normal Alexander killed my drive to Raid

    First of all let me start off by stating that these are my opinions. How I feel and what I say represent no one but myself. It would be nice if there were those who felt the same but I know that many likely won’t.

    OK so as the title says, I have zero drive to raid because of Normal Alexander. I haven't logged into FFXIV for anything other than to complete the events. Let me just say that before 3.0 my driving force in logging so many hours of play was Coil raiding. While getting shiny new gear was cool it took a back seat to what is to me more important than a simple gear grind. Story.

    As annoying as it was to have story locked behind raiding it pushed me to play more and I had a lot of fun doing and completing final coil with my static. But with Alexander Normal being a thing now I've seen all there is to the story of it in a day till they add the Left Arm of the Father or whatever.

    This is exactly how I felt when Raid Finder came out in Cataclysm WoW. It was cool at first till I realized how it devastated my desire to raid. In 2.0 I was so very happy that they were keeping story separated with Coil and CT. But now they did exactly what I feared with Alexander.

    I understand that many will not agree with this. That many people don't have the time to devote to hard raiding just to see how some story turns out. For me though it just feels like a big portion of why I play has been taken away and I don't feel much of a reason to play till 3.1 comes. Story is a big deal to me. It's the main reason I play anything that has the RPG tag on it. It's what kept me raiding in 2.5 to finally see the big conclusion for myself.

    Any ways that's enough of my rant. If you feel the need to comment your disagreement or support of my thoughts feel free to. But please keep it civil.

    i skipped coil cutscenes because coil story was boring imo, the awesome fights made me do them.

    i hate alex tho. everything about it. normal and savage.
    stupid goblin story, poorly designed fights with dpsdpsdpsdpsdps as the center, terrible trash music, bad boss looks. bad dungeon design. meh, i dont like mecha or steampunk.


    /opinions. i dont agree with your reason but i understand it as a valid one to dislike alex and be unmotivated

    I feel the same way about it. Once I heard that it would have a easy story mode I feared that it would mean less dedicated people to actually attempt the hard content.

    And that fear was realized my static has only gotten past the first part in AS1 and that's because we keep losing people. Now mostly every one is either on AS2 progression and AS3 ,4. The story was one of the things in coil that got most motivated to even attempt it me included I love the hard fights and struggle to get better. Maybe more people would be motivated to attempt savage if they never put the upgrade items in the new 24 man raid. I'll get flamed for saying this yes.

    But unless your doing the hard content there's really no reason to be getting the upgrades for il 210 gear.

    this is SE content for<1% of the players and is breaking up FC's and raid groups.

    I loved the amazing and expansive visuals of coil. Alex just doesn't have that. Hopefully the next set of raids has epic scenery, because I don't think we'll see it with Alex.

    Coil of Bahamut was much better and more interesting, the Bosses looks really cool and the fight are awesome, different phase so you dont look for only dps dps dps as in alex savage is -.-


    Alex Savage is just a DPS-Content, not really different phase or something, just dps all of the 8 people , that sucks so... (Alex normal is okay...i just hate it after 6 weeks grind for gear xD)
    In our Raid grp 2 people left because Alex Savage sucks and its boring, half of my group left motivation about Alex savage (we are in A1 40% -.- )
    In Coil we had so much fun, we cleared Coil 1-13 before Heavensward and pre-nerf/ without echo!

    I Hope they do little changes about Alex Savage or they loose many people if the next content 3.2 is the same DPS shit....

    (sorry for my english xD hope you know what i mean)

    while I see why you dislike it I'm actually happy that I can get to see the story in the normal mode.
    For me it's just like you already said. Work, family and friends take mostly 90% of my time so when I get to play this game I don't find it fun to die for 1+ hours just getting frustrated not achieving anything (did this in Demon/Dark Souls though) so I was stuck with the easier content that is doable without a fixed group.

    i think it allows people with less time to play end content and also allows people to go through the motions and know what to expect when they do do the harder mode

    The problem is simple: Not everyone can be pleased.

    I'm on the hardcore side and am currently in AS4 with my static and while I still enjoy it because it's hard and that sense of accomplishment for beating the turns Coil definitely felt cooler because you also got to see what was happening with the story afterwards. Imagine fighting T5, T9, T12, T13 with Alexander Normal difficulty....It would be just lolz. The fact that the fights were difficult matched the music, the story, cutscene, etc and made it more bad ass.

    On the flip side I would say at least 50 percent of the population probably never saw the story unless they youtube'd it because they couldn't beat Coil whether through lack of finding a static, time, skill, etc so I can see why they split it up and it makes sense (even though it hurts the few of us that could beat coil).

    I will say though that If you look back at Coil 1-5 It was also pretty underwhelming except for Turn 5 so I'm sure It will be more epic as we progress through the next set of Floors (hopefully) as far as boss battles go and how they look and feel. I also hope they make Normal mode a little bit LESS rollover easy as I think with the current difficulty It's WAY to easy. It should've been a bit more middle of the road instead of skewed so one-sidedly towards the super duper casual ez-mode thing it is right now.

    Just my two cents on the subject.

    Agree 100%. I didn't skip the coil story tho, loved that one
