I'm not saying you can't have fun with the idea. I'm saying that the idea doesn't focus entirely, or even just more, on the Egi. I'm saying it takes focus away from the Egi.
Ah I understand now. Though my idea is totally all about the Egi, it's just taking away the A.I. The abilities are indeed given to the SMN though, but it is still the Egi that carries out the attack, so for all intents and purposes it is still a SMN commanding an Egi. (That was the image I was trying to get across at least lol). Though if you generally prefer having separate Summon abilities (Summon I, II, III) which do call forth a separate A.I controlled pet with it's own abilities then yeah, but in that instance I'd say the current incarnation of SMN has that down pretty well.

My idea is more so about the consensus that SMN does not have enough Egi/Summon related abilities at their core. My idea facilitates this in a way that is not detrimental to the play style of SMN as a viable job or the overall mechanics of the game. My idea would not work if it were to include the Egi as an A.I controlled pet as they are now. If it died, the SMN would have no abilities to use.

See, I'm not a fan, it'd basically turn SMN's playstyle into a fancy BLM, while that's the way it's been in previous final fantasy games from my knowledge (And as others have commented) I don't think it should follow into a whole MMO game. There's already a few people worrying about the classes becoming too similar in nature, and this would basically mean "Do you want BLM or SUM in front of your name?"

Honestly just make the Summoned Egi part more survivable and viable in more situations (Or at least make it so one Egi is marginally better in some situations over another). It's good to have unique things to a class that aren't just visual effects, and if that unique thing is having issues, the answer isn't to scrap it entirely and make it into something that already works, it's to continue tinkering at that mechanic so that it does work (Which.. Sadly isn't what SE did by just giving Egis a small buff then completely ignoring them..).

Yeah I can understand how my idea would make SMN appear as a more fabulous BLM (no offense to BLM's :P lol) But as I say it is just one idea that tries to bring Egi into the spotlight more so. I have seen a number ideas been posted before that focused on Egi that still had A.I and separate commands, and although those ideas sounded cool there was always one too many snags that made it none viable as a play style.

With my idea, I tried to counter that by taking away the A.I/Separate command function and give them to the SMN themselves instead. However it would still retain the illusion of a pet controlled job as the new SMN abilities would still be executed by the Egi. As long as it appears like your still commanding the Egi, then that's all that matters I think.

I would love to see a viable idea that did have Egi at it's core and still incorporate an A.I/Separate command functionality, that would be really cool. I'm sure it would be possible some how.

I also really like Airget's idea though, his Tri-Summon idea is rather fabulous
