Hotbar/Gearset - Why can't these be online stored settings?

As stated in the title, Why can't we have these stored online? Having to backup then restore these settings are an absolute pain the butt. I play at home and at work during my break and I need to remember to export my settings otherwise I end up with a different gearset setup. Leveling up a class, I'd notice that I'd have to go back and look for the new skill I might have received. It's extremely cumbersome. I really hope this is something you all can look into.

Agreed. This is very much needed. It's even worse for people who play on console or switch between console and PC, as then the settings can't be backed up and loaded onto the other machine, but have to be re-created separately on each, so trying to keep them in-sync is a real hassle. These should be stored server-side so they're available from wherever we log in from, just as the rest of our character data is.

I mostly play on PS4, but have occasionally logged in on PS3 while a friend was using my PS4. But then when I do, I need to check where things are on my hotbars and set them up as I expect them to be, plus changing classes requires individually equipping each piece of gear since my gearsets there are way out of date. It's a major hassle. I'd actually like to add the PC version of the game so I could load it on a laptop and play when I'm on the road, but the added hassle that would create trying to keep gearsets and hotbars in-sync makes it not worth getting.

This has already been answered before. Character data is written and backed up every 15 seconds or something like that. if SE stored more data, they wouldn't be able to reach this time goal. Set up dropbox syncing or something.

A dirty bit is all they need to take care of that. They could easily trigger this additional data to be backed up only when it's changed, while still backing up active character data every 15 seconds or whatever it is. It's not like people are changing their gearsets or hotbars all the time, so it would be pretty minor in the data transfer needed. (And it would still be more backing up than it's getting now, which is probably never for most players.)

That's a good interim suggestion, at least for PC players, but I still think SE needs to add it to their servers, so that it will work for everyone who plays from multiple platforms.

When it comes to character data, and increasing it, I'd rather sooner see glamour log and maybe a fish tackle log.. but that's just me ^^

I understand why they can't have automatic server-side backups (there's a reason this stuff is client-side in the first place) but XI handled this perfectly for people who wanted to store their console's settings on the server. All they did was have a hidden menu on the login screen which let you upload and download your settings from the server before logging on. I didn't use it often, just before major expansions and after investing a lot of time changing things around. One catastrophic loss of settings in the past was enough for me to appreciate the peace of mind it offered.

Sure, it sucked when you made major changes without backing up and then a patch screwed everything up and forced you to reinstall and remake all those complicated gearswap macros, but having the option there was wonderful! As it is there's currently no nice way to back just those settings up on PS4 other than doing a full system backup and hoping it all works out, and playing XIV on two different platforms is more hassle than it's worth. I think the way XI did it will be enough to keep most of us happy for now.

Other MMOs can manage this just fine without justifying it by server strain. What on earth kind of servers are being used that we are constantly hearing that the servers can't handle x thing?

On the same note: keybind and hotbar profiles across the whole account please. I'm a roleplayer so I have more than one character...needing to change all my keybinds and hotbars to be like how I have them on another is very annoying.

Yes it would take 15.0000001 seconds to backup the data.... Perhaps they just don't spend the time and money on updating the software and their servers to make saving gearsets, keybinds, hotbars, etc stored server side.

would something temporary work? be able to upload character data, load it to ps4 or pc and it is deleted after it is retrieved or after a couple of hours. no need to keep it updated just dump it when the time is up.

Umm I already do that. Doesn't make it any better. It takes me longer to backup/restore my settings than it does for them to back them up server side. Just saying
