That is because that armor has a different shader then HW armor. To get the same effect of the shaders you need silver dye or the other metal dyes.
Thankfully it's not the shader that handels this.
It's actually the specular map that adds the gloss.
The dyed old armor does have a faint invironmental shine, that is the shader.

Hmhmm, of course some people like that painted look. Asking for a second setting on all dyes might be too much I guess.. but I just wish we are able to use old with new armor
