Please can we have more info on EU Datacenter migration

I started playing during open beta for 2.0, and I am fairly certain that the servers were marked as (EU) back then.
So you made a sentient choice to ignore the suggestion of the devs, and then you are complaining they didn't cater to you when your choice turned out to be bad later down the road?

Yes they were. I made a sentient choice I NEVER ever said I didn't. Although it had no impact at all at this time since duty finder was worldwide and they were even boasting about it. Moreover, I waited a few days and no EU server was ever open to registration.
I am not complaining, stop being so judgmental on your comment I was just pointing out they didn't move for us at that time and people shouldn't hope for a move here either.

SE always gives solid information a bit late. The EU datacenter is coming in October so expect an official announcement with the hot details at the end of September or in early October.

Don't have high hopes for a favour and free migration. Although I hope for you they'll provide this kind of special service.

But I thought I read there was some sort of free transfer offered due to a NA/EU difference at the start of 1.0 or something.. I'm not looking for an enhanced transfer. I don't have a house and will not be migrating with a whole FC - I'm fine with dumping gil and all. If it comes down to it, I'll pay the fee, but I'm just hoping it'll be waived as long as I don't aim for a high population server or something.

Yes they were labelled but during Early Access they were near-constantly closed due to character creation restrictions.
For myself, there were only 4 NA servers too, one of which was the one I'm on. Additional servers were later created by SE but by then several friends and my husband had managed to get together on Midgardsormr and we had levelled to 50. SE offered a transfer service but didnt announce it in emails only on lodestone so it was missed by all 6 of us, not that we cared much at that point because there was no difference between NA and EU at that time.Although we're down now to just my and my husbands characters its still far too much money to throw away on paying for a transfer considering other games (including SE's own FFXI) can offer it for free or ingame referal. It realy not too much to ask of SE to allow a free transfer in the circumstances that present itself soon - even if the clause is that we have to go to an underpopulated server.

I agree with you on that matter, transfer should be free regarding the circumstances and the fact they are often restricting servers...

But why would it be underpopulated ?
SE is migrating the whole Chaos datacenter from physical location in canada to europe. The players and servers will be the same except they'd have been relocated.
The migration won't remove people from these servers and you'll still have access through Duty Finder to players on Cerberus, Lich, Moogle, Odin, Phoenix, Ragnarok, Shiva, Zodiark

Individual server population still affects FCs, party finder, and availability of crafts n mats. I believe its Lich that is considered a low pop server in comparison to the others altho its been a few months since I checked.

Yeah but individual server population won't change.
They're just moving the servers to another location, players will still be on the same servers, it'll be completely transparent.
The only change will be the lag, NA players will lag a bit more, EU players a bit less.

Because some of my friends live in europe, and I have a US friend that transferred over to a EU server.

They won't, but NA players on EU servers will likely experience more lag after the EU servers are moved to EU.
