They couldn't be bothered to give us an OpenGL renderer, why would anyone expect a Metal renderer? If anything, it's on Transgaming/Nvidia to transition Cider to use Metal in lieu of OpenGL. I don't remember anything about Yoshida's message to OS X users that they were doing away Cider / actually give us a native client.

Yes I did. My tone was hostile in my previous post. I am sorry.

It's just they were unwilling to invest in a proper renderer for OS X. That's what's upsetting.

As Kasuga has previously commented, the FFXIV team will be also be hard at work on updates for the Mac version, and will continue to push for the best performance possible. With the adoption of DirectX11 for Mac, and the replacement of OpenGL with a new graphics API in Apple’s next OS, the fundamental gap in current performance issues may soon be eliminated.
That still says to me they aren't doing away with the Cider middleware. Yoshida went out of his way to not mention anything about the possibility of a native client. So, even if we do get a version that targets Metal, we'll still be dealing with the overhead of D3D to Metal. Maybe once El Capitan hits, we'll hear something.
