I never raged quitted, but I initiated an abandon for the first and only time. It was a Ravana Ex farm. Took about 2 hours to fill. We enter and get the Tome bonus. Of course, a few people freaked out. When asked who it was, the "new" person stepped up and said it was he. He stated that it's his first time entering but he had a video on repeat all while we were waiting to fill.

Another guy suggested we give him a chance, and we do so. We wiped 4 times, never making it to the four swords phase. The thing is, the new guy was amongst us that was generally doing better than those of us who have it on farm. On that last run, it was me and him. Of course, Ravana killed me first due to threat level then the new guy. I then hit the abandon option because they started going on and on and on about who ain't doing their job.

I don't remember my first actual rage quit (I rather wipe myself 30 min through some content and get the results than getting locked out for 30 min; also, I just can't seem to be able to abandon hope that SOMEWHERE in other players there is this...spark of will to get better and if I just stay and keep talking to them, things will change at some point (it never does, but whatever xD).
So I have only quit parties like..3 to 4 times in all of my FFXIV life.

The first time was a "sad quit" though, not a rage one xD
Hullbreaker Isle, me as WHM, first time in the content, pretty much first time playing after a whole year of absence, too.
Buff and go, tank starts running around in the first area pulling EVERYTHING. Finally stops somewhere, several bees on him, I already struggle to keep him alive, tank does NOTHING to keep hate, just stands there while I spam my MP away, staring at my hate colors in fear. Suddenly the tank starts running again, to do what? Pull MORE mobs. At that point I used benediction, only to see the tank's HP drop from full HP to 0 in less than a second from the bees' stings and the trap he ran into. After the tank is dead, of course we all wipe. I return and realize that the tank already stormed off before any of us could get up again, let alone get buffed, pulling the whole room again while telling me how much I suck at healing in party chat. I try again but of course this time we wipe even faster because I don't have MP, cooldowns or ANYTHING to keep him from dying. After returning again, I turn around, say "Sorry, I don't think I'm good enough to heal this instance yet" and quit.
I never tried that dungeon again for the next 2 months, and I didn't heal it until recently, all because that one time was so traumatizing and I felt really guilty about my failure to heal through that dmg too. Since back then I learned that the tank did pretty much every possible thing wrong and healing through Hullbreaker Isle is actually not a big deal at all, but hey, we all know that the worst players are always the ones who are the most convinced that they are the sole pillar of perfection in the party...

i can sympathize; I always blame myself for stuff like that even though, like you said, that tank did just about everything in his power to screw up that run. i mean if they don't even have the patience to let you regain your mp after a wipe I think it's almost guaranteed that they're trying to mess with the party..

Trying to win against Landenel for my 60th card to upgrade to using 3 star cards, after 4 hours of his bull shit random rule I went and bought gold packs with the 35k mpg I had grinded (no tournament mgp.) I didn't get a single new card.... I unplugged my ps3 and set it in the closet in fear that I would destroy it.

My stubbornness didn't let me ragequit Cutter's Cry a few days ago, but I was sorely tempted. I had a tank with a whole pile of strange habits.

Leveling my Scholar, comfortable enough to run lower level content with Selene. Rolled into my leveling roulette and got a DRK as a tank. Thankfully one of the DPS was new to the dungeon and the starter circle caged the tank for buffs, because I'll be damned if she wasn't around a corner for every post-pull Stoneskin/Adlo halfway through my cast bar, even precasting them before the last mob death. No ready checks. Ran full speed into boss rooms without taking a breath. Pulled enormous groups of 7+ mobs and dropped HP so fast that I had to spam Adlo, and couldn't use Fey Wind because losing the one Embrace might have killed her. Booked it to the next group when both of our MP bars were near empty so she couldn't establish threat very easily. Dodged maybe 1/5 AOEs. Never met a Ram's Voice she didn't eat. Once even ran out into Dragon's Voice for no discernable reason. If it weren't for Aetherflow and non-Cleric Stance Energy Drains woven in between Adlo casts, I would have run completely dry.

After the party I, uh, "went back through the battle tab and added damage numbers together", and even with my zero-damage pulls I STILL out-DPSed her.

    AV first and only quit

My first (and still only) outright quit...the kind that locks you out of DF for 30 minutes...was less out of rage than out of sheer hopelessness. Admittedly, sometimes I get aggravated relatively easily but I rarely just give up. I still want to win. So, this time was a leveling roulette in which I drew AV. For some people that is all that needs to be said. The tank our party got was pretty new to the game it seemed, and certainly new to AV. He actually wanted me to lead the way...as MNK. I did my best, trying to hug the right side of the big first room and hoping he would take enmity back before I died, while avoiding those roaming toads and jellyfish-like wasps, and taking out only the stationary mobs we had to. We didn't do well by any means, but eventually made it to the far right corner that has the treasure chest after 2 or 3 deaths each (since it's so close to the start someone could die and run back while the others are still fighting and, well, dying). The tank died right before entering the room to the first boss. So here was myself, the healer, and the other DPS, waiting for the tank to "stealth" his way back via the path we'd already cleared, rejoin us, and fight the Locksmith. Either the healer or DPS goes AFK (I forget which) and announces it as one normally would. So we go in standby mode...or most of us do. The tank, oblivious to this and everything else apparently, runs thru the middle of the room right thru all of the mobs we had so carefully avoided, then continues, dragging these mobs with him of course, to run into the first boss room...right past his teammates. All the while, I'm just standing there watching him and you all know what I'm thinking: W.T.F.? We get the message that the room will be sealed off in 15 seconds. I didn't make it long enough to find out if it was sealed.

First rage quit I remember involves I believe Praetorium. If there's one thing I despise, it's people not being given a chance to experience the fight because they wanna watch the cutscenes. Bum rushing tanks pulling the bosses before the cutscene viewers have even had the chance to watch the first cutscene... I literally went on a tirade that still to this day surprises me that I wasn't permanently banned without appeal right off the bat for it, then left and proceeded to scream blue murder at my computer. I have a rage problem. Only yesterday I broke my desk because someone on a voice communications platform decided to make out I was a bad decision maker because Windows Phone works best for me, not Android.

Though when there's a new player I always try to work to their pace and help them find their feet (easier to do when you main tank). I've no problems slowing down if there's a problem. At the end of the day I want people to feel like they achieved something. I'm also usually extremely patient if someone is struggling and will support them to grasp the mechanics. Though if after five explanations you're still dying to the same mechanics I start to wear down.

not sure if i can really put it down as a rage quit. though i'll let others determine that like so. though i left a brayflox run as a tank when i asked for the healer to cast protect so we can move forward. the healer was a scholar and retorted that it is a waste of a cross class skill to use and told me to "DEAL WITH IT". so i did. i went and hit the leave button and gladly took that 30 minute lockout.

They were probably slotted with Cleric Stance, Aero, and Swiftcast, which would have served them just fine. If it was the brusque attitude that turned you off, I sympathize completely. Brayflox, though, is entirely doable without Protect when it comes down to it.
