What does Heavensward actually bring to the table as an expansion?

That's the thing, the numbers are shrinking. The whole and main reason I play MMO's is to play with other people and make friends. But friends keep quitting and won't come back no matter how much I beg them. I make new friends and the majority of them quit too.

Of the people I have played with and still talk to, about 95% still actively play. The ones I stopped talking to for various reason don't affect me, since we no longer do content together. People say they want lasting content, and sure that can work if done right. But who REALLY wants to still be running CT years from now for no real reason other than SE decided to just update the rewards instead of adding a new place to go? Or spend weeks/months trying to get drops from different zones so you can get gear. They tried that with the relic and people hated it. The Rage on the forums over Atmas, and then the dungeon drops was immense.

You mean the "over 4 million registered accounts"? and have you considered also that curious people due media and success have come to play and they might also leave when they reach the same stage as the majority of players and see the issues?

Well, it could certainly work a lot better. It's not successful because they have a super great formula. It's successful because it's either this or Garrisons,(World of Warcraft) and pretty much everyone said a big old FU to Garrisons a months after release. Right now SE is using a formula created by another company, and they are riding the experience of a brand new expansion and the fatigue of another game's missteps. It doesn't hurt that it's probably the most beautiful MMO on the market, but make no mistake - Blizzard knows they are in trouble and need a big win. The competition isn't over. SE can't just hum along with this content model and expect to be successful forever, especially if core FF fans are already tired of fighting the same Primal\dungeons on different tiers ad naseum.

The way official sources state the number of players makes it impossible for it to not grow. That is unless it stays absolutely stagnant. In other words, every single person in the game could quit and 1 new person could register, and the official sources would list this as growth.

Not necessarily. But this thread seems to be turning into another doom and gloom thread, so I will be taking my leave. People have been saying this game is going inactive and people are quitting since week 2.

Necessarily, the way the information is presented, it cannot shrink. They show lifetime registered accounts, not new registered accounts, not active subscribers. It's a cumulative number that cannot decrease. Therefore, yes it's impossible for it not to grow by appearances.

So you are saying that you are completely fine having the same linear type of content, in which all you do is instance over instance when all that changes is just the area? Oh hey then keep playing Neverdrip version only that on a different area and name, farming the same bull of tombstones (what will be next? um yeah I got it, Pedigree tombstones!) and dumping the previous gear in a matter of a few months along with the content. Have you played any other MMO's? you clearly haven't at least from what you post.

By the way, the vast majority of people you claim ''still play'' is not the same players you met in 2.0. The community of this game is recycled and it's core players are no longer to be found, being just a bunch of barren bones filled with newbies, who will just try this game because they are curious, then likely to abandon it and sail ship feeding this endless chain.

If we didn't like the game, we would stop playing. Truth is, we do like playing and we want to continue playing. There may just be a handful of players here, but I'm sure we aren't the only players that are bored, just like I know that the satisfied players aren't well represented. However, that doesn't change that all of us are still part of the player base, all with valid opinions. If we aren't happy, why shouldn't we voice those opinions?

I'm glad that people are still enjoying the game, FFXIV is a cheap date with a beautiful, polished world, packed to the brim with content. However, if the best this game has to offer to keep players invested is recycling their treadmill model, not only patch to patch, but expansion to expansion, I can't help but find myself disappointed. When I find myself disliking the game, I will stop playing, make no doubt of that. But I'd find myself much happier to feel that hook again, always itching to log in to Eorzea, and unfortunately, right now that spark isn't there.
