would you play this game if it went free to play/hybrid?

I for one would drop this game like a time bomb if it went f2p/hybrid, here's why, I have played/seen games go from sub to f2p/hybrid, and the game quality suffered drasticly because of the change, I'd play this game for 20 years if it never changed the billing model it has now, I'm content with how it is now (with the subscription), I'm posting a poll and vote how you feel about "Would you keep playing if ff14 goes F2P/Hybrid?" Yes please SE never make this game f2p. I would definitely quit if this game went that way and I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. But if it did go f2p that's something that make me quit in a heartbeat.

Nope
F2P always is a giant trap where everything goes 10times as slow unless you pay for every single thing.
Over the last years i played a ton of free mmo's and it's either pay sub to have a decent game or get nickel and dimed for everything.
Swotor even have you pay for extra action bars...

Yeah this is two of the many reasons not to go F2P/Hybrid.

I'd at least try it. Worst case, I would just lose my time, but not (much) more money than I am now on the subscription. There's no real harm in trying it out when it goes free-ish, even if it's quality is likely to suffer.

I definitely would not. For one I can see the community growing much more toxic (similar to LoL/Dota 2) and the huge amount of things they'd put in the cash shop. Thavnairian gear? Probably cash shop only. Event gear? Cash shop, etc.

I meant EVER, I know they are doing fine now, but if they decided to go that route I'd lose all interest in FF14, I have learned my lesson with games that went F2P/Hybrid, never making that mistake again.

The problem with the F2P model is that revenue still has to come from somewhere to keep the servers up. More elegant games like Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2 are buy to play with optional purchases that can pretty up your character or mounts that can be used in game. Even then, it's a sure thing that ANY attractive model released for the game will be for the store. WoW has started doing this too and it has a subscription still.

Worse games handle it like Archeage where you will be at a statistical disadvantage if you do not pay.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the F2P model, since reality is that's what consumers want these days (look no further than your iPad) and sometimes more money can be made off that model than a sub one. However for my MMOs I prefer sub models just because I feel like I get more a complete, balanced and fair experience from it.
