Name Change Price

Can someone tell me why it costs $10.00 to do something as simple as changing your name? I'm no expert when it comes to how changing something may affect the code, but I would think changing your name wouldn't affect much at all since the only purpose it serves is as an identifier. So, say a rock hits you on the head and you decide to pay the money; you go to change your name only to have the name you want taken. It's like an expensive slot machine! Don't get me wrong, I think there should be a fee, but maybe a one-time free name change for each person and a discount for people who have a recurring subscription like $2 or $3. $10 just seems like a lot of money for a name that isn't even guaranteed.

It provides a gate to prevent constant name changes. Pretty much why Fantasia costs as much as it does as well.

Also, it's kinda disconcerting to everyone else if you're constantly making changes ... a drag on system resources to update not only everyone's friends list where you exist, but also the blacklists.

That being said, a single 'free name change potion' like Fantasia might be a good idea. One might not want to continue playing as "Lady Killsalot" after using a Fantasia to change to a male character, for example.

Exactly. A one time only potion wouldn't be too bad, but that makes sense why it's kind of expensive now.

If name changes were cheap and easy to do, you'd get a lot more people using them to troll. The game currently has no way to check what someone's previous names were.

While a veteran reward of a Namingway Card would be cool, it'd have to be given pretty late for it to not just result in mass confusion. I know I cringe every time someone in my FC changes their name, even if their new name is great or more appropriate or whatever, just because I have a hard time remembering who everyone is. Heck, over half the people on my friend list, I don't remember. I can't figure out how many I just friended for some random reason and never really knew, and how many I did know, but they changed their names.

But people don't need to change their name to troll. All they have to do is start a new character, put in some random jumble of letters like the hundreds of spammers do, and then proceed from there. Don't get me wrong I see where both of you are coming from, but if you're gonna put in a name change option, don't make it so unappealing. As I, and ya'll, have posted, putting in a one time potion or making it a veteran reward would be just fine. I could see $10 maybe if you were getting a guarantee that the name you pick is gonna be available but it's not. I love this game, but I would like to change my character's name so I can enjoy it to the fullest.

Just as an example, I joined a PF group to do ravana, notice this person that dont do his job properly or die a bunch of time so I remember their name. Other day I joined a PF and notice the same person so I reconize it and left. Sudently he send an application to join the FC and the leader ask if someone knew him so I see the name and can share my bad experience with him. If that person could name change often I would never notice and would hace to relive the PF waste my time and we would had a bad player in the FC.

So that's why only a one time name change should be allowed. Besides, if reputation matters that much to you, on PS3 and PS4, if you examine the person it shows you their PSN ID in the bottom right corner. I don't know if it does this for PC though.

Err, it's a lot harder to make a new character to troll. I don't understand what you mean. How can a new character troll endgame PFs, hunt parties, and semi-statics? (The primary places where it actually matters.)

What exactly would they be doing at end game that would qualify as trolling? Just sitting there while you fight the boss is about the only thing I can think of.
