"Why do you keep playing FFXIV"?
*shrug*

Friends, and hoarding mostly. I spent the first two months of HW doing Archeo Maps until I amassed 60m gil, 3 FC airships, and I finally started with gardening again just this week. I keep playing because of just those two things. My focus is always amassing money in MMO's, endgame is usually always second. I have barely touched crafting, and outside of LW and CLN, I probably never will.
I focus mainly on MNK, and have been leveling my WAR slowly. I still am enjoying myself more in the two years I have been here, than any other MMO I have played. Maybe it's the 10 years of being burned out on raiding, dungeons, etc, that I can find solace in other things in XIV.
I just had to ask myself this right now. There's not much in the game that interests me so I've just been leveling different battle classes that interest me. I'm not even going to touch the crafting/gathering grind as it is now in the game. Apparently people are making millions off maps. I've been gathering a dragonskin map each day, doing my maps with fc members. Dunno what I'm doing wrong but I'm hardly seeing any profit out of it and just learned a friend made millions of gil out of the maps we've done together. My dreams of a medium house are pretty much shot especially since I donated a ton of gil for our future fc house.
So.... yeah.... why DO I still play this game....
The only reason I still play is because I'm having fun helping a new person I met experience the game. If it wasn't for that, I'd be gone probably.
Always been a fan of PvP and Seal Rock is as close to open-world PvP as you can get right now in FFXIV. When I get jumped by someone I have to run these things through my head within a split second:
1. What class is he? What are the 2-3 skills he has that will make my life a living hell?
2. How should I react if he does indeed use those 2-3 skills?
3. What CDs do I have available on me? Does it change my strategy?
4. What should I use my Purify for, against him?
5. What is the essential chess move I must make to stop/lessen his burst?
6. What is the fastest way to defeat him within 5-6 seconds?
For me, PvP is mastery of your class + precise knowledge of others. The end game that never stagnates and always changing, watching myself react faster and faster over time, against a variety of different enemies with different playstyles until it becomes second nature. Then once in a while a player uses a particular skill in such an ingenious way that I have to go back to the drawing board.
That's what keeps me coming back.

I enjoy the game for many reasons.
Raiding, savage.
Socializing with FC and ingame friends
Like to relax and just farm materials and fish, crafting
Level up other classes for the class quests
Help others get through story content
Sometimes I make lower lvl gear, battle and gatherers etc, head out and look for people with New Player logo that either farms or kills monsters and donate the gear to them for freeLove seeing how happy they get from that ^^
And when I dont feel like logging in some days, I play my PS4 and MGSV, Onechanbara 2, FC4 and many more games I have in my shelf ^^

I think this is the best and most accurate post I've read on these forums about this game. Nailed it to a T.
Heh, I really hope things change...otherwise gonna see less and less people as time goes on. In my FC alone there is only 9/66 people subbed. About 3 of them actually play =x

It's the same for all pvp players... except that pvp is quit better elsewhere.Always been a fan of PvP and Seal Rock is as close to open-world PvP as you can get right now in FFXIV. When I get jumped by someone I have to run these things through my head within a split second:

Personnaly i always almost did only pvp on all mmo i played. Pve for me always has been an entertainment for mediocre players (some as good with a saucepan, others with a cello, or with a pencil, and some are good with a mouse&keyboard...)
It happened that i played on some pve focus games like the Secret world, but it wasn't for the gameplay (that i found pretty bad), but for the scenary and the investigations.
All that to say, i think i'm playing FFXIV to go on a pve diet, since pvp is neither specially interesting neither fast to pop and the main quests are quit boring not to mention the brain-teasers are nonexistent.
FFXIV has a great design and a large choice of glamour (it's very important for me). The gameplay is classical but good enough.
I'll play it until i'm done with my pve diet.
Love my friends, love the casual content, love the hardcore content equally.
What else do you need?

I'm paid 'till July 2016.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.
