The whole hairstyle contest is bogus

The votes in this contest are an unfair representation of the playerbase. This is due to the way SE has decided to run this contest; thru this forum.

Now I won't call any names on any particular offenders, but this forum is known for having some of the worst ideas around. There are lots of players that avoid even looking here for fear of getting a headache at some of the requests/ideas/"blank or riot" threads. Even SE has come down on the latter, asking people to stop putting that in titles.

Some people have problems staying away from a place where SE listens the most, because if only bad ideas get shared here, only bad ideas will be heard. And then the eventuality with many is they get banned here; there's only so much patience some people have in replying politely to nonsense. Plenty of players are quite fairly proud of that.

And I could almost agree with denying people banned here from inclusion in a contest like this, but they're not banned in game, so why should their game experience be lessened? That's hard to agree with. Aside from those people there's still the others who can't stand to look at most of what happens here. Threads on this site are regularly linked to no less than 3 prominent forums due to their hilarity.

So please, SE, for the next contest like this, attempt to find a way to include the whole playerbase.

If people arent interested in going to the forums to vote, thats not SE's fault. The link telling people to vote was on the launcher, so they have no excuses.

It is a freaking hairstyle. We are not voting over the next class or the future of the game here. I do agree there seem to have been some issues with this contest but the amount of temper tantrums being thrown over a potential cosmetic option is beyond belief, especially when most of the entries seem to be VERY unremarkable.

As for the quality of these forums, all I'm going to say is that if you want S-E's ear you need to post on the Japanese forums because they are listening over there, and if you can read enough JP to understand the atmosphere on those forums it's very obvious as to why.

Threads on this site are regularly linked to no less than 3 prominent forums due to their hilarity.

I haven't been paying much attention to this hairstyle contest but because of this thread I finally checked it. Only looked at the male ones though and they are mostly unoriginal or similar to what we already have. And the male hairstyle with the most votes is definitely a female hairstyle. Is there a group that is intentionally voting for such a feminine hairstyle as a joke or something I'm unaware of?

I haven't liked the execution but for different reasons. I would have preferred it if the voting was done with a poll with vote results invisible.

The fact that we can see which ones have been voted on the most has created a bias for certain styles that had more votes during the beginning of the contest. Since people fear that their vote will be useless on a hairstyle that is very far off from winning, hair styles are not voted on fairly.

I don't think there's a big joke going on. I think people actually like the hairstyle. Can't blame them for wanting something different. The only odd thing about that style is the model for the hair is female. I thought only male models were suppose to be submitted for the male contest? O.O

Your point is that voting through the forum wasn't the best way to represent the entire playerbase, correct? I'm not sure how SE would have done it, otherwise. All they have to do is register an account and hit the "like" button; that isn't too dissimilar to pretty much any other voting process. It only takes a moment. And, as one of those posters said, the people that actually care about voting will register to vote. They're not inclined to post anything, and the announcement is on the front page when you launch the game.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say that the people on this forum have come up with some of the worst ideas...and I'm sure that you could give an example that I might agree with. But, at the same time, at least they're here making suggestions rather than just saying it in-game, where the devs won't ever hear it.
