The whole hairstyle contest is bogus

The votes in this contest are an unfair representation of the playerbase. This is due to the way SE has decided to run this contest; thru this forum.

Now I won't call any names on any particular offenders, but this forum is known for having some of the worst ideas around. There are lots of players that avoid even looking here for fear of getting a headache at some of the requests/ideas/"blank or riot" threads. Even SE has come down on the latter, asking people to stop putting that in titles.

Some people have problems staying away from a place where SE listens the most, because if only bad ideas get shared here, only bad ideas will be heard. And then the eventuality with many is they get banned here; there's only so much patience some people have in replying politely to nonsense. Plenty of players are quite fairly proud of that.

And I could almost agree with denying people banned here from inclusion in a contest like this, but they're not banned in game, so why should their game experience be lessened? That's hard to agree with. Aside from those people there's still the others who can't stand to look at most of what happens here. Threads on this site are regularly linked to no less than 3 prominent forums due to their hilarity.

So please, SE, for the next contest like this, attempt to find a way to include the whole playerbase.

If people arent interested in going to the forums to vote, thats not SE's fault. The link telling people to vote was on the launcher, so they have no excuses.

Do you have any idea how many people don't even seem to notice anything else in the launcher than the login part? Patch notes, seasonal events, contests - heck, even when a maintenance notice is shown in full as a separate stop before the game is actually launched up... I always have at least half a dozen people being surprised at / asking questions about those exact bits of information when it comes up in a convo anywhere, and I'm probably one of the least sociable people in the game, so I barely have channels. That's how much attention most people pay. Of course, it doesn't help that the launcher is quite clunky too, and even if you do open a link, it's only two or three intro sentences, after which there's only a URL to open up the browser - patience isn't a virtue these days, and something like that is too cumbersome for most to care, even if they do check out news in the launcher. So yeah, while this "it's in the launcher" argument seems perfectly legit to cover the informing-people-about-things part, it really doesn't work at all.

Hm, wouldn't that be a petition or something?

But they could create an ingame voting option, no? Runescape does it iirc (haven't played in some time) and one has to assume that game is almost dead at this point, so it's not like it took them an incredible amount of dev efforts to put into the game. They could even make it a quest with the hair guy, at the end you could pick out one of his drawings and one of drawings, and then SE could track it that way. That would take more development time though.

Your point is that voting through the forum wasn't the best way to represent the entire playerbase, correct? I'm not sure how SE would have done it, otherwise. All they have to do is register an account and hit the "like" button; that isn't too dissimilar to pretty much any other voting process. It only takes a moment. And, as one of those posters said, the people that actually care about voting will register to vote. They're not inclined to post anything, and the announcement is on the front page when you launch the game.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say that the people on this forum have come up with some of the worst ideas...and I'm sure that you could give an example that I might agree with. But, at the same time, at least they're here making suggestions rather than just saying it in-game, where the devs won't ever hear it.
