    Beginner Crafter

Just starting crafting in this game. Was looking to see where to start (want to get everything up to 60)

I figured getting the 3 DoL classes up to 15ish, then start working on crafting and doing each to same level everytime I level the DoL classes.

Is there a particular DoH rotation that would make this more effective in crafting gear/stuff for other crafts?

Getting everything to 15 is a good start since there are a lot of useful cross-class abilities that you get at level 15. Also, pretty much all crafting recipes at level 15 or below use mats that you can buy at the respective guild NPC vendors. If you're going to level all of the DOH jobs (and you'll want to do this, because of the cross-class abilities) I would recommend trying to keep the levels about the same as you work them up. This has two main benefits: If you need materials that are made by another class, like lumber for BSM recipes, those materials are usually recipes at similar levels; and having all the classes at the same level means you only need one set of gear at a time.

Most of the established crafting rotations are designed for endgame (level 50-60) crafting with a ton of the cross-class skills and tend to require a lot more CP than you'll have for a while. At early levels, you're going to need to work with what you have available. Steady Hand with Great Strides + Standard/Advanced Touch until out of CP was my default rotation for early to mid level crafting prior to having the skills that let you abuse Inner Quiet stacks. If you're having trouble getting HQ results using this method, gathering HQ mats can help.

Like PirateCat said, frequently people prefer to level up all classes at once. It should work well, but might feel a bit slow/ require days of downtime to recover leves, etc. I personally took goldsmith, weaver, and leatherworker out ahead of the others (though everything to 15 is pretty important). This was mostly because GSM makes most of the jewelry as well as needles (WVR tool), while weaver and letherworker will cover almost all of the armor as well as the accessories that GSM doesn't cover for both crafting and gathering classes. With just those 3 you'd need to buy tools (except needles) or toss BSM into the mix.

One thing I will say though is that leveling ARM after BSM like I did was great because I was easily able to provide myself with lots of HQ ingots for crafting and in one case for leve turn ins since BSM and ARM share a few recipes and mostly use the same materials.

Also, since you're gathering as well (and HQ gear is less important for gathering since NQ just means a few more misses/ fewer HQ over time rather than botching your final result) I feel like it pays to keep your gatherers ahead of your crafters and to keep an eye on which materials you want to pick up. Mostly these will be staples (logs, ore, flax, etc.), but you could be coming up on leves that require some rarely used material that you could easily grab a couple dozen of while you're out and about. Also, use your leves for crafting, not gathering. Leves do give decent exp for gathering, sure, but not as much as for crafting and you don't actually collect anything that you can keep (all key items that you turn in) so you end up gathering exp only that way.

Make sure you turn-in HQ items for the daily GC missions They'll reward double the exp for every gatherer/crafter.

I would not level them up all at once though. If you are starting out, you'll be broke really fast. I'd recommend levelling the DoL first, so you can spare the mats / sell some to earn enough.

Check the prices on the marketboard first ?

You'll only go broke leveling DOH jobs if you buy a lot of the mats you need. Nearly everything you need can be gathered, which is obviously slower but doesn't cost gil. So yes, keeping DOL jobs at pace is very helpful here.

I would also recommend making at least one retainer a DOW/DOM class for ventures so you can have a reliable supply of mats like hides and sinew that come from enemy drops. You can use the seals you get from daily GC turn ins to buy ventures and keep them going.

Overall it's not hard to be self-sufficient while leveling everything, but it can take a bit of planning.

Edit: Another useful source of experience is the daily Ixal beast tribe quests. There's less of an incentive to max out the reputation with them than there used to be, but you don't need to produce your own mats for anything other than the quota one and they're a pretty decent source of exp. Plus, you can turn them in as any DOH class, even if it's not the one you used to make the items, so it's a good way to dump some extra exp on a class that's lagging behind a bit.

It's also a ton of EXP for some (admittedly dull) busywork. Doing the full suite of quests once you start getting up to rank 4 or 5 will get you 2-3 levels a day all the way up to 40. It's like getting six or seven extra leves a day.

As far as leveling order goes, I'd recommend doing them all simultaneously via GC turnins, while prioritizing:

-CUL to 37 for Steady Hand II.
-CRP to 50 for Byregot's Blessing.
-WVR to 50 for Careful Synthesis II.
-ALC to 50 for Comfort Zone.

Even pre-Byregot's, you can HQ a lot of the turnins yourself, even without HQ components. My typical pre-Byregot's rotation for low-level stuff was something like:

    • Inner Quiet
    • Steady Hand II
    • Hasty Touch x4
    • Master's Mend
    • Steady Hand II
    • Hasty Touch x4
    • Master's Mend
    • Steady Hand I + Basic Synthesis until finish, or Steady Hand II + Rapid Synthesis, depending.

Throughout all of this, use Tricks of the Trade whenever it pops up. This gives you more than enough CP to use MM multiple times. I preferred using Master's Mend over, say, Manipulation, just because getting a Tricks proc during one of the Manipulation charges was a bit of a pain.

Does fishing net some of the items needed to craft in any of the DoH besides like culinarian?

Yes. For example fish glue, alchemy.

But the vast majority of fish using recipes are culinarian.

In general unless you like fishing, don't bother with it.

Fish glue, fish oil, shark oil Alch.
Jewelry uses certain fish, coral by color but as said, they are foods.

tbh, you might want to get Culi to 50 first and it has nothing to do with easy or hard. Culi is a horrible inventory drag. It's going to eat up a lot of space.

Take them to 50, go back and do all the crafting quests. I just got around to doing leather crafting quests and it took all of an hour to get from 15 to 50. You will be able to appreciate the story line of each crafting guild better as well, if you are doing them back to back.

You are in a better position doing crafting now than people were 'back then'.

Something you are going to want to do while leveling is, desynth the NQ's you make. Chose two Desynth classes now. They are essential at and after 50. Fieldcraft and Master DemiMateria are going to play a big role in crafting after 50 and if you need to buy them because you didn't get the desynth up, it's going to cost you. There is a lot of content in crafting and gathering and much like getting a DoW to 60 doesn't make you Alex extreme ready, getting one or even all the crafts and gathering to 60 doesn't make you 3 star ready. It takes a well ordered mind to be a top end crafter.

Take the DoL to 50 then go back and do Doh quests? I apologize may have misread that.
