    Armoury System Fails?

As far as I understand, the Armoury system was supposed to allow you to do everything you wanted to do on a single character efficiently, without the need for alts as most MMO's require. Well with the way lockouts/weekly caps are handled, it is advantageous to have an alt in every main aspect of this game.

    Advantages to having an alt:
    • DoM/DoW: Want to play more than one job and gear them at the same speed (eso cap / alexander lockouts)
    • Gathering: 450 red scrips multiplied by the number of alts you have.
    • Crafting: 450 red scrips multiplied by the number of alts you have. If they decide to add specialist recipes like Yoshi P has mentioned, then it will be an even more advantageous to have an alt so you can have access to more recipes.
    • Additional inventory space (although not tied directly to one of the three main aspects of the game).

Am I wrong or did I completely miss the point of the Armoury system?

The thing is, I don't think many people have the patience or willpower to make a bunch of alts, go through the entire storyline, gear up again, etc

To me, I'm perfectly content with just having my one character. I may only be able to gear one class with Eso lockout and such, but it's not like I'm in a rush to max out all my classes anyway

Unless you are planning on taking multiple roles into A1S+ (I'd maybe even argue A3S+), fully upgraded Law + a Hive weapon and a random smattering of Alex gear added in and divvied up should be plenty.

Inventory space and crafting/gathering aspects are hassled by the fact that you're now splitting this across multiple characters, including the workloads necessary to reach those points, so that's up to how much of a pain you're willing to put up with and how much you'll invest in order to retrieve self-sufficiency.

This is why is a MMO, where you find friends that get different roles and different crafting/gathering and help each other.

People made this same argument back when Poetics were capped to 450 and while I can see that perspective, I don't agree with it.

I took all the classes to 50 before HW dropped on one character. I have three classes that I play at 60 that are adequately geared for all content but A. Savage, and I have one class that is geared for that (bard is iLvl 190 and climbing fast.) Since my FC doesn't do A. Savage, I do not feel like I'm losing out by not being able to get Eso on more than one class. I can swap to SCH or SMN, which are both 180+ now, and run any other content. I can swap to WAR, which is 170, and run all content but Alex Normal. Because of the armory system, I can now level BLM, WHM, MCH, AST, DRK, and PLD and only have to get a Law weapon for those to be viable as well.

I think it is a bit of an issue when it comes to progression and world-first groups. If your group isn't set with everyone having two or more characters at the point to which you can clear the latest content with both, then you're getting far less loot over a short amount of time. Same with getting BIS for craft/gathering right now too because it all depends on weekly-capped currencies, but nothing stops someone who has alts geared/cleared up enough to get up to 8x the amounts intended, and only a very small subset of the red scrip stuff is actually Bind on Acquire.

this advantage is minimal, the advantage of the armory system is that when you clear something and a duplicate item drops you have someone else that can use it.

you clear Ravana EX three times and you get 2 WAR axes, you just completely wasted one Axe because after the WAR main got his no one else can use the 2nd one. everybody else that plays WAR in the group only has WAR leveled on their ALT characters.

yes, alts will bypass Tome and Scrip caps but you put in double the effort so you kind of deserve it. it's not a failure of the Armoury System the Armoury System and ALTs are not supposed to be mutually exclusive.

The Armoury System is not out to eliminate all reasons for using alts, that would be an unrealistic expectation. the game overall is still very efficient with one character, being more efficient with multiple characters is not a bad thing.

items get outdated way too quickly for most people to care about capping Eso on multiple characters.
