They would, but people would STILL take DRK/WAR.
This is the argument that really annoys me on these forums. Everyone worried that boosting a paladin's defensiveness will somehow make them overpowered and invalidate the other tanks. The whole point of the current tanking meta is that all that matters is DPS DPS DPS DPS, because you can acceptably tank Alex Savage in slaying accessories without using a tanking stance on a lot of it.
Paladins could have -vastly- improved defenses and it wouldn't help their current predicament.

Exactly, any buff to paladins' defenses "make no difference" unless they defensiveness absolutely crushes the other tanks. I.e. Tank in sword oath and still take less damage than Grit/Defiance DRK or WAR.
Paladins' issues do not lie in their defenses (or lack of). Paladins' issues lie in inherent weaknesses that lead to more problems. Their weaker aggro leads to DPS loss. Their weaker DPS leads to unjustifiable increase in mitigation. And so on.
To "fix" paladins, they need to be either: "Absolute best defenders" so there is no environment where it wouldn't work, or fix their aggro so they can dish out more optimal DPS. Or make them much more viable as off-tanks.

Dat OP PLD.
I don't think it is the only change, but I like the idea (not my own, credit due to random unknown form goer) of swapping the debuffs on RoH and Storms Path - makes PLD a more versatile 'defence tank' with respect to damage type, and gives WAR a little bit more of situationality to its skill set without hitting its core cooldowns.
It is a very nice utility which doesn't see enough use on WARs right now because the deeps are real.
