To further explain the queuing system:

Let's say you have Skull Sunder in a macro. You press Heavy Swing first. The Heavy Swing goes off, and you then press your Skull Sunder macro. If you press the macro and the 2.5 second GCD for heavy swing hasnt finished, the macro will do nothing. You'll need to wait the full 2.5 seconds (well maybe 2.45 with skillspeed) and then press it. Due to human error, lag and latency, you'll likely miss out on a fraction of a second, because you'll probably be pressing the button at closer to 2.6 or 2.7 seconds. It's humanly impossible to press the button at -exactly- the millisecond the cooldown ends - you either press early and nothing happens, or you lose a few fractions of a second in a gap between Heavy and Skull.

If you press Skull Sunder early when it ISNT in a macro, though, it queues it up! You can press skull sunder with half a second left on the Heavy Swing cooldown and the skull sunder will IMMEDIATELY fire off as soon as the cooldown ends. . Zero gap, no lag, no risk of the press not registering. This queueing doesnt happen if the skullsunder is macroed.

That's why macros of regular GCD moves are bad - they increase the lag between skills, and sometimes result in a skill not firing off when pressed. It's the equivalent of debuffing yourself with a Slow, reducing your skillspeed.
