Loving BLM, will SMN give me a similar leveling experiance?

So far im loving how BLM can totally blow stuff up with my choco just healing me, i know smn is about DOTs but with the DoTs,the pet plus my choco will i still be able to mow down mobs like my blm can? Im currently only level 41 on my BLM if that gives an example of where i am. (LOVING going from fire III to Bliz III now)

SMN is... odd during levelling. With proper pet management, you can kill stuff several levels (6+) higher than you, and it's exhilirating. You won't exactly blow stuff up at earlier levels, but you can kill stuff that you normally wouldn't be able to on other classes. The 50+ range is, I hear, when SMN starts getting fairly bursty, and 60 is when they become AoE burst gods.

I was a blm main in 2.x, I always hated the idea of smn and had 0 plans to level it. After running out of jobs to level I grit my teeth and decided to give it a shot, I fell in love with the job instantly and as leveling progressed it just got better and better.

Entering a dungeon with no tank or heals is actually what I wanted when join in progress popped, main healing and titan tanking qarns first boss bees and other stuff. It's so nice having a job with so much flexibility than just stand here and pew pew.

Give it a shot, some dislike the dot management but what really can appeal is its toolset and when those moments happen you know without a smn there that party was screwed.

Also if you pvp..smn is a wrecking ball

I just have a feling im going to end up leveling both BLM and SMN to max, BLM is so crazy powerful to me after leveling ninja first. im not sure if the DoTs will give the same feeling but if its like a AFF Lock/Boomkin/ShadowPriest type thing from WoW i can see how it can overwelm

You're in for a treat, SMN AoE is ridiculous from level 30. It spikes up at 50, really spikes up at 52, then you're basically top tier. The tools after are also beneficial. At 60 the AoE becomes ridiculous.

Leveling SMN in dungeons is one of the most relaxing, quick, painless leveling experiences possible in FFXIV.

They use bane to spread their dots. They have AOE dots and AOE damage. They also do pretty good single target damage. Pet management isn't difficult at all. It's just a pain sometimes cause your pet takes a few seconds to respond.

Even this can be mitigated if you macro them right.

This was one of the quality of life adjustments that SMN got for Heavensward. The pets are much more responsive than they were before.
