I would like this, personally. Even if it is a bit "illusion of choice" ish, just having the option there (and be changeable) is something I would welcome. What will happen at the third/fourth expansion? Talent points and maybe branching a bit of what a character can do would certainly help a lot. Just purely adding traits is a little bit boring. It would all need to be carefully done, but I would like it!

Well, honestly you say people will spend numerous hours and days and months "number crunching" to get the "best spec" that.. is bad? That sounds to me like a fun thing to do. Constantly play with your specs to find the best ones. That is thousands of hours of game-play in itself.

That is players getting involved with "your" game. Why is that bad?

I'm actually anti-talent tree, believe it or not!

Here's a thought though, DOW and DOM are "Trees" and your choice is based on which job you play as. Why spread the choice of skills within a job when one can simply change jobs to change how they play? The reason why other MMOS tend to have a skill tree or options is because it's 1 character=1 class so if you were a Druid then the ability to choose allows you to flesh out your character in a unique way but then later if you decide you didn't like that setup you could reset your tree and try something different.

In 14 it's just not needed, why setup a scenario where you create skills that might not get used when you could instead put those skills and abilities into another job. If you started 14 as a healer and realized you don't want to heal, pickup a new weapon and you go down a new branch.

Honestly, I"d never want to see the devs create a skill tree for the jobs because that time could be better spent making new jobs and ways to play, once you start creating skill trees you triple the work required to keep balance because now there are way more variables to consider which means it would make it that much harder to implement new jobs in the future.

Here is the big problem with talent trees: Ultimately they end up being a massive illusion of choice because no matter how many viable choices there are, people will figure out which one is DA BEST. This is what happened in WoW until they finally just stripped the talent trees out because no matter how many viable talent alternatives they added, 90% of people would just google "best (class) spec" and copy that verbatim.

Why is that a problem? Because then people start to simply expect every other class to take DA BEST talent spec, and anything else gets ridiculed. Couple this with the fact that people love to discriminate against classes in this game and you're going to end up with situations in which people are kicked or excluded from groups for taking certain talents.

That said, I do like the PVP talent system; I feel like it works for PVP because people pretty much do not give a crap about PVP in general in this game, but I feel like if it were to appear in PVE people would immediately begin min-maxing it and then you end up with people expecting other people to min-max their talents as well. I do agree there needs to be a new/alternative form of progression in this game, but if it's going to be talents they need to do it properly.

IF SE implemented a talent/skill system than it would be adding different skill/spell lines to the Jobs which would be the same as leveling to 70 and adding 5 new abilities.
