    DX11 Issue

For some reason, while in DX11 the Aftcastle area for Limsa Lominsa seems to cause my computer to "enter power saver" mode, the screen turns black, and any sound that was being played will be stuck repeating it indefinitely. I've checked and it doesn't look like my PC is over heating, so I'm not sure what seems to be going on.

I can generally stay in that area for a little while when first starting the game, but not for too long. Certain areas specifically cause this problem, such as the area for the Maelstrom Command, the Missing Member, and it cut out on me at the Bismarck during a cut scene. Every other place in the game, so far, seems to run perfectly fine with no hiccups or issues.

I've currently got a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970, Intel Core I7-3770 CPU, and running on Windows 7.

I have the exact same issue. I've tried everything from uninstalls and clean installs of drivers, removing all my peripheral devices and reinstalling them. Nothing has worked so far. My issue started the night of Heavensward's release but it's always in Limsa's Aftcastle, the second boss of the Aetherochemical Research Facility and a few random spots in the beginning of said dungeon. DX9 never gives me an issue, I've tested it and it works perfectly, it's something with DX11[currently sitting in the Aftcastle in DX9 with no issue after being kicked every load-in with DX11 for the past 3 hours].

My specs are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 gpu, Intel i5-4690K cpu, and Windows 8.1.

Since you say this is a dx11 issue, you may want to update your drivers. DX11 also provides inferior performances for no apparent quality and i would recommend using DX9.

DX11 isn't meant to bring performance improvements, its meant to make it prettier.

    And it does.

    If it'd stop crashing.

Been suffering with this issue ever since I came back to FFXIV. End up eventually using DX9, but DX11 has huge graphical improvements that I'd love to keep. Every week or so I try DX11 again to see if they fixed it but each time I am disappointed. I have a GTX 970 for the record.

Like most of the other players who have this issue, I've also had to go back to DX9. I hope that we'll see a fix of some sort down the line so we'll all be able to head back to DX11 and enjoy the prettier graphics. As an update, I found that this eventually happened to me in New Gridania, particularly while staying in The Roost for a certain amount of time. Considering the areas this happens at, I almost feel like the cause of this might be the reflections from the floors. All of my drivers are up to date, and I've also been through a complete reinstallation in the past just to see if it might have fixed the issue.

No problems for months on the 350.12 drivers. Then during the cutscene just before you get the new broom mount from this year's All Saint's Wake event:

After Zer0Virus said how it's seemingly only in places with reflections, I turned my real-time reflections down and haven't been having an issue crashing the past few days. This probably isn't a fix to those who crash constantly with DX11, but if your crashing is only certain area's or times of day[Aftcastle, Gridania's inn, areas where it's raining] it's worth a shot. So far it's the only thing that's worked for me.

To change your settings, in game go to: System Configuration > Graphics Settings. Under 'General' the first drop-down box should be 'Real-time Reflections,' Change that to High instead of Maximum[or potentially lower if you need to].

DX11 makes the game run faster. It reduces the CPU stress and addresses more RAM than the DX9 32 bit client. Before you run the DX11 client be sure to update to the latest Nvidia/AMD drivers. Be sure to uninstall the old drivers first reboot then install the new drivers and reboot once more. If you keep having serious problems this means you either have really weak hardware or other drivers in your system needs also update (for laptops). And again be sure you have enough RAM and an appropriate DX11 capable GPU to run the DX11 client. Alternatively you can use the official Heavensward benchmark and you can switch between DX9/DX11 to see the differences. By default the DX11 client have some extra graphic options enabled that DX9 hasn't so this may be the reason that for some it runs slower.
