PvP Abilities and Action Bar Space

Does anyone else not run Frontlines much primarily because of a lack of action bar space? I was mostly a PvP type in WoW, but I find the setup in FFXIV frustrating because I simply don't have the keybind space to make use of the additional PvP Abilities. When I do decide to do a match, I have to spend awhile rearranging hotbars to get something sort of workable, but I still usually don't have room for all 8 new abilities. This was irritating already in ARR and has only gotten worse since HW gave every class 5 new actions.

I really wish they had done the PvP skills as modifications to existing abilities instead of new ones.

Yeah I hear that sucks for key board players...I play on controller and have no issues at all.

That's what I hear. I have a FC-mate on PS4 who PvPs frequently and he says it's not as much of an issue for him. The best I can do is rearrange my hotbars for every match, dropping some abilities in favor of PvP ones, but I generally can't shutter 8 abilities on any of the classes I play.

We on controller have an option to use the optional double trigger hot bars and that is where I put my PvP abilities so that they are not comingled with my other abilities.

I just activated a third main horizontal action bar and threw it above the default two. Then I added some extra horizontal bars (and a vertical bar) to the right of the default bars. Gives me more than ample room for all abilities on the bars, at least. Then it's just a matter of setting keybinds.

I generally hide the unused slots, though. Ends up looking like this.

The jobs I play in pvp and pve content are different, in pvp I run mnk and smn with a plan to add war whm and ninja once leveled, all of these jobs are setup for maximum burst ablities and necessary buffs on my first hotbar.

Summon I need to alter slightly as I use this for pve content sometimes but mainly I roll as mch with a plan to level drk next.

If your gearsets can take it you could always create a pvp version of your current job set up with that in mind.

That's generally what's getting me, the keybinds. I have a few open spaces action-bar wise for my NIN (for example--though I don't have open spots on others), but in terms of readily accessible keybinds, my only options are ALT-modifiers at this point, which are quite awkward to use while moving and the like, which is sort of a problem in PvP. I had similar problems in WoW (I use the same basic keybind map for both of them), but since the abilities were all shared between PvE/PvP, I just made sure PvP-centric ones were easily accessible. That's more difficult to do here since most of the standard PvE stuff takes up all the core buttons.

I've tried a number of workarounds but I always end up getting frustrated to some degree or another.

Ah, so you don't like using the modifiers. Yeah, that would certainly limit your options. I hate to say it, but you might just have to suck it up and use them. Or maybe get a gaming mouse and use some of the buttons on that in concert with your keyboard bindings. I can't think of any other way to make it work well.

I'm a clicker, personally. I could never get behind keybinding; it always just felt far too awkward. I'm much more comfortable at knowing where my mouse cursor is on my screen than I am at knowing where my hand is on the keyboard, all without looking. My limits are simply how many bars I can fit on my screen. I've been doing it so long that I've naturally adapted this weird hybrid keyboard-mouse movement scheme in order to not keyboard turn. How I use my mouse to both click abilities and move at the same time I'll never even understand myself, but it works as well as any keybinding would.

Oh, no, you misunderstand to a degree. I have several modifiers. It's just that the ones that are left I can't really use effectively while moving. I actually am the opposite regarding keyboard/mouse, though, I only use the latter when I have to do ground-targeting.

Ah, so you're quite literally out of space in your movement comfort zone. I gotcha.

What about using a gaming mouse, as I mentioned before? Those could help.

Yeah, most people are the opposite of me regarding keyboard/mouse. XD
