Can more SE affiliated Music Composers contribute with music to this game?

I was going through the game now enjoying alot of Sokens work and even the other composers who are currently involved working on this project.

It hit me that it would really be amazing to have multiple composers to give their wonderful touch to this game. Composers from FFXI, Nier or how about Yasunori Mitsuda contributing with something? =)

Is is the price that they charge thats preventing them or Yoshi P really wants a close circle? Different composers can give a different feel and touch to the game.

Just random thoughts in my head. I wonder if this can even be possible?

Soken is currently not only the only composer, but also the Sound Director. He may be working himself gaunt with the amount of work a solo composer has on a project like this, but my understanding is that if he wanted to, he could reach out to other S-E composers like he did for the 1.X soundtrack. He's done a pretty good job keeping things varied on his own so far, though. Maybe he's enjoying himself?

I dunno. I think he did an amazing job with Heavensward imo. It wouldnt hurt to see what others can contribute with aswell thats all. Many SE music composers are amazing so having their touch to contribute with a song or two wouldnt hurt

The only FFXI composer who actually hasn't already contributed to FFXIV's OST is Kumi Tanoika, as both Nobuo Uematsu and Naoshi Mizuta have worked on numerous tracks for FFXIV already. SOken might be the Sound Director, but he's not the sole composer for the game - SE haven't had a FF title that has a soundtrack solely composed by one composer for years (spin offs don't count).

Really though, it's apples and oranges here - as you said Uematsu and Soken's compositions for FFXIV is perfect enough, and having other composers contribute just 'spoils the broth with too many cooks' so to speak, as the soundtrack loses cohesion. But that is just my own opinion as they say.

He is and he isn't. 1.0 was originally scored solely by Nobuo Uematsu, making it his first solo project in the series since FFIX. When the meteor hit, Masayoshi Soken was brought on as sound director and composer, with a number of other S-E composers contributing in places as well, but never more than one or two songs. While most songs from 1.X did end up reused in 2.X, the composition of new music specifically for A Realm Reborn was handled entirely by Soken.

Likewise, with Heavensward, the theme song is by Uematsu, but the new score itself is entirely by Soken, occasionally borrowing melodies from Dragonsong but otherwise sticking to his own compositions. So while some tracks in-game were contributed by other composers, the only active composer assigned to Final Fantasy XIV is Masayoshi Soken.

Probably, but that'll be far too expensive in the long haul hiring so many big-named composers to work on tracks from time to time. Instead, I can see them at least doing that for important trailers and/or one main theme like Nobuo's "Dragonsong"

According to the credits for Before Meteor it seems Soken scored a number of tracks for 1.0 even before Tanaka's departure from the development team and Yoshi taking over (March of the Moogles, a track that played during a cutscene in the original Gridanian storyline, was one of them), and that is not including the tracks Ryo Yamazaki also supplied, although to be fair those were added after the staff change in the development team.

But you are right about Soken being the main staff composer - Uematsu's contributions were done under contract, given the fact he's no longer directly employed by SE and is a freelance composer.

Actually, that is one of a small number of tracks that were added to the 1.0 cutscenes after Tanaka left. The same patch also added and/or swapped in different tracks for the field music in a number of locations (most notably La Noscea and the Black Shroud), as well as replacing the battle theme that played in open-world dungeons. None of those added tracks were present in the original 1.0 release files.

You're right about the changed zone music (I got annoyed when On Windy Meadows was replaced with the lackluster Freedom as the 'base' La Noscea track for instance), however, March of the Moogles was in the game from the very beginning - it played during the scene where the player and Yda and Papalymo are chased by a treant, and they freeze in midair - the track is the musical cacophony played by the moogles in that scene, and the way the scene is, there is no way that music was 'added into it in a patch - it was an integral part of that scene (that scene was the first real clue to the player something strange was going on - unaware at that time that they were actually in an Echo vision of course).

The main thing is, that scene (and music) was in version 1.0 from the very start of service and wasn't added in later on. (I'm sorry for derailing your thread Skizzle - and I hope I haven't come across as nasty Fenral, I guess I'm just as passionate about FF music as you are. ).

Eh, while Mitsuda used to be my favorite, he hasn't really done anything amazing in about 10 years. He's also independent now, he's not affiliated with SE.

That being said, I wouldn't mind Sakimoto for a few field tracks. But again, independent, not affiliated with SE.
