Because storyline and lore should dictate player choice? Within reason, gameplay should be a reflection of lore and story, but I don't think restricting player choice should be a part of that. Seems like an antiquated idea to me.
Storyline and Lore should very much dictate player choice and freedom, or you end up like WoW, the lore is there, but no one gives a toss about it because that big black dragon we just killed, Deatharms or Wingballs or something just dropped my ilevel 981 axe, something of the random item name. Yeah I don't know the names, or even how I got this numbered item, but it's freakin epic! Look at the numbers that pop out my head in PvP now!
Random Player: Wow, nice gear, where did you get all that stuff?
Veteran WoW Player: I hit a button while standing in this city, entered into a place full of big things, and killed them super fast. Now I have items. Don't know what they are called, but who cares cause im like hovering and stuff!
I suppose it's personal preference, but I will take freedom of choice and gameplay over lore and storyline any day. If I want a good story I'll read a book. When I sit down to play a game, reading huge walls of text and watching a non-interactive cutscene isn't something that interests me.Storyline and Lore should very much dictate player choice and freedom, or you end up like WoW, the lore is there, but no one gives a toss about it because that big black dragon we just killed, Deatharms or Wingballs or something just dropped my ilevel 981 axe, something of the random item name. Or maybe, we all remember that they have already stated that they will open it up later, and see no point in flailing like idiots over nothing.
Just reiterating this post Delirium. I wouldn't mind them allowing you to just completely "wipe" your progress with a GC to start over and join another GC. I do want to experience all three GCs without having to make a new character. I also faintly remember that SE was planning on implementing some ability to switch home cities so you could experience all three cities' storylines too. Wonder what happened to that.
It's not a flaw in design. You get to do certain quests and acquire certain items when in each guild; if you could quit one, and join another, what's to stop ya from doing ALL the quests and getting ALL the items?
It doesn't make much sense, and if you think about the story of the game, it doesn't make sense that you would be able to just cruise around to each different one and take what you want from it.
I know why they did the lock-in, but I think it would be nice in the future if we could do a quest to join another GC instead. The quest would wipe clean the amount of seals you had and you would have to start fresh. This is essentially what the Campaign Faction changes required from you. Not to say it should be like FFXI, but even after joining LL I still feel like I'm going to regret Ul'dah like I originally wanted to.
I'd personally like to be able to experience ALL of the story in the game, not just one faction's version of it.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.
