This is how you should deal with Gil Sellers.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this idea so if you have I'm sorry, I'm not trying to steal your idea...

When you identify a gil seller, do some behind the scenes stuff in your systems so that they log in to a copy world from that point forward. A prison if you will, but the catch is, don't tell them, make the change without notifying them. Stick all gil sellers in these prison instances together so the only people they can shout or tell to is each other. You should be able to do this because they broke the rules in the first place so you COULD ban them, and since they still log in you still make money off of them, but we don't have to interact with them anymore. Win win. Eventually they would realize of course what has happened and they would delete their account or complain or whatever, but at that point who cares, they broke the rules anyway and none of the normal populous even interacts with them anymore so we wouldn't even notice... which is the point :-D

You are under the assumption that the gil sellers are real people that would be inconvenienced by this. They are not. They are bot programs running on a computer somewhere, nothing more. You would cut into their profits, but you would do so at best as much as a ban would - and at a higher cost to SE to maintain these ghost worlds.

Most research suggests that the majority of accounts used for RMT are hijacked accounts. There's nothing to actually identify until the account has been scuttled, and the gil generated from doing so has been sold on. The only people you'd be inconveniencing is the victims, who would not only have had their account ransacked, but would also be penalty boxed for having been. The spam work that you see and are probably reacting to out of irritation, is generally done by trial accounts, who have nothing to lose in the first place.

Except that trial accounts can't send /tells, /shout, or /yell, and now they can't send friend requests either.

imo the only real way to stop gil sellers is to remove the need to BUY it on the first place. ff14 already does this well compared to other mmos but still not enough. thats the only real and effective counter imo. if a mmo gives a virtual currency to much power it WILL fail on the long run. example: aion (everything was based on kinah when it came to gear upgrades. EVERYTHING. such a system FEEDS this market and damages a mmo)

on ff gladly gil has little impact on gears (save for materia bullshit were RNG basicly works right in the hands of those sellers basicly by design) so this game actually does a way better job than others out there when it comes to this.

The only way to combat rmt is for everything to be purchased with untradeable currencies. if there is no tradeable currency, they have no money to sell. the downside is, like guild wars, they would just farm items and sell them.

The problem is this won't happen, the ONLY way to stop RMT is to stop people from buying gill, but there is no shortage of lazy/bad players that depend on buying gill because they are unable to farm it on their on, so this will never end. Nor will it in any mmo with tradeable currency.

Which brings me to this... Is it really that hard to get gil? I just started a new character in May (? or June) of this year and am already swimming in gil. PLUS I am the biggest filthy casual imaginable. I dont understand this need to have so much gil. If houses on my server WERE available, it wouldn't take me very long to save up enough to buy one. Housing is the only reason I see people needing so much gil. Gear can get expensive, but the best gear comes from dungeons. Upgrading gear doesnt even use gil, instead you use tomes or different items acquired by simply playing the game. I'm just at such a loss as to the need to buy gil in the first place. It's so easy to get!

It depends on what you're doing. Leveling Crafts can be costly or can be time consuming. Gear isn't really an issue these days since it's mostly Eso/Raid gear, etc. Other than that, gil isn't really used for anything outside of buying glamours, buying glamours or food. All of which, can be taken care of if you have your crafts leveled.
