Waiting for a Spear to hit all your CD is too situational, if you get Spear in those conditions great. If you need to burn CD I don't wait for spear. Using LA at 40% MP just for waiting a Spear is not worth, better use it when you are at 70% MP.

I mean, mathematically it's not even worth waiting 30 seconds for another draw.

Imagine you are at 70% MP (this is the moment you should use LA), there are 3 possible scenarios.

Timeline 1 (normal scenario):
Second 0 -> Draw (not Spear) Use LA and CO
Second 120-> You have LA and CO again

Timeline 2 (worst scenario):
Second 0 -> Draw (not Spear) You don't use LA and CO
Second 30 -> Draw (Spear) Use LA and CO
Second 126 -> You have LA and CO again.

Timeline 3 (perfect scenario):
Second 0 -> Draw (Spear) Use LA and CO
Second 96 -> You have LA and CO again

Unless you get Timeline 3 spear is royal road fodder.

I don't know if I agree with that. I use Bole often on tanks. Bole and an Aspected Benefic regen and I can DPS for quite a while longer before having to switch out of Cleric.

I agree that it can be useful for that purpose, but only when the amount of damage incoming justifies its use. That's why I will only deploy it at certain times (IOW getting a Bole near the end of a pull or after a boss has recently blown its tank buster is pretty unfortunate).

Wouldn't it still be better to use the cards when you draw them until you get what you want? Like if you want to do an AoE balance, but you drew a spire you shuffle and draw an arrow wouldn't it be better to use the arrow instead of Royal Roading it for a buff you don't want? If I'm looking for a certain combo like AoE Balance I continue to draw and use the cards until I get a balance I can hold, then I keep drawing and using until I get an Spire/Ewer.

Solo I would recommend diurnal, although nocturnal is very decent now. In a paty with scholar definitely diurnal.

Also, if there is a summoner in my group and I shuffle into a spear, I'll toss the spear on them. Otherwise I almost always RR it.

How do you shuffle or play royal road? i only see the option to draw

i usually use Bole for tanks, Balance for DPS, Spire for boss fights on DPS, Arrow on DPS or DRK and WAR, Ewer on MP classes, and Spear i have no idea i usually don't play that card

but my buffs depend on the randomness of what i draw, so very little control over my buffs

Royal road burning is a skill unlocked at level 35. Can't speak for shuffle as I haven't unlocked it yet.

Why are you spreading anything but Balance and Arrow? Stop doing that. Stop using anything but Balance and Arrow. Everything else is useless (With the maybe once in a moon exception you get Bole like 10 seconds before a tank buster).
