    Free Trial -> Real Game

    Hi ppl!
    Silly question maybe, but hey.
I am currently playing the free trial - and I like what I see - however I got some questions ^^

    1. If I buy the game - do I still have my trial-characters left, or do I have to make completely new ones?

    2. Can I buy the main-game first and level to that max - was it 50? - and then go
    buy the expac and continue?

    (3. Noobquestion of the day - what level can I get a mount? :>)

    Greetings from a future FFXIV-player

    1. Yes your trial char will carry over.
    2. Yes you can, you could also buy a bundle pack with 2.0 and the expac so that way the exp you get from 2.1-2.55 doesn't go to waste and you can hit 51-52 since you half to do 2.0-2.55 to be able to go to the new areas in the expac.
3.thats dependent on what level you are when you fight the story trial at level 20 you will get a quest from your grand company to get a company chocobo after getting that license you can ride mounts.

From the prospective of a new player who did go for the bundle including HW, I did not have any time at 50 to really finish off the "post 50" MSQ (until hitting the HW section). Several friends had a lot of time at 50 to really finish stuff off and be ready for the HW MSQ line as soon as it dropped. What that kinda means is that I am a tad overgeared (NOT a bad thing at all!) for the questing I am doing.... and I am just fine with that.

Be careful--multiple IRL friends of mine have recently attempted purchasing the Collector's Edition to upgrade their Free Trial account and have received invalid CD Keys... My girlfriend purchased TWO versions of the game that were both invalid and is now stuck unable to progress in the game.

Square Enix has a horrible customer support portal that only lets you submit tickets which get useless, automated answers 48 hours later. I love this game and wish to support it, but this is just absurd... Be wary, Luthias.

Thank you all for the quick answers!

One last question: Should I, or should I not, buy the game/exp from Steam? :P I heard rumors it could mess up a bit - any thruth to this? ^^

If you buy it on steam, you will have to buy expansion there too. And I do not think that you can unbind from steam.

This. Aside from that, it's largely the same as the PC version.

Even if you buy the PC version, you can still use the Steam overlay by running the launcher through Steam. I do it. The only thing you don't get is easy access to the FFXIV Steam community through a link from the game listing - you'll have to go there manually. There might also be restrictions in how you interact with the FFXIV Steam community if you don't buy the Steam version of the game, but I'm not sure.

The only benefit the expansion gives below level 50 is the ability to make an Au Ra character. If you like that race and want to switch to it, get the expansion early. The only other reason for getting the expansion now would be if you want to buy the bundled version of game+expansion.

If your trial is through Steam, then get the game from them as well. If it's not, then don't. You won't be able to have both Steam and non-Steam PC codes apply to the same account. (Though console codes can be combined with either.)

I barely started to try the game and I really like it and I'm thinking to purchase it. But what you said here is a big bummer...

It might just be a recent issue they're having atm. I've not once had a problem with any of the codes I got from any of the purchases I made for FFXIV (all 2 of 'em, anyway). With all the people who manage to play the game without an issue, I'd say the chances of this happening to you are slim.
