was i wrong to use limit breaker?

hi so i was doing ifrit and titan hard modes first time for my main story quest. During the HM battle with primals i use limit break whenever i can. A few people chided me for using limit break and called me a noob. However, those people did not explained what was wrong with me using limit break.

I talked to a few people on my fl about it and they said i should use it and the people that chided me were idiots. But i am sure there was a reason why. Later i googled and apparently something i read says that limit break will do more damage if i used it until 3 bars. Is that the reason? or am i missing something?

I assume you were using it as dragoon? That, in itself, isnt wrong - but yes, wait until all three bars are filled to use a much more powerful attack.

As a general rule LB should be used in this priority: melee (drg, nin, monk); caster (blm, smn); ranged (brd, mcn). Healers will use it if needed, tanks should never use it (except some special fights). Melee will deal more single target damage than ranged/caster, while the caster-lb is still stronger than the ranged one. And always wait until 3 bars are filled up (2 bars in boss fights in dungeons) or until you can tell that the boss will be dead before you got limit break 3 (aka 15% or less)

Disagree strongly with your general rule.

Caster LB is superior in most dungeons (to clarify, in case you are confused, it's better to do 20000 damage to a pack of mobs than 5000 damage to a boss in terms of speeding up the run). Melee is superior on single target encounters, such as trials and some raids.

Appropriate LB is appropriate. If multiple enemies then caster, if single target then melee. Melee usually gets priority but it depends on the situation.

My point is that in a dungeon, it's better to use the first LB as a caster on a trash pack than to save it for the boss fight in the middle. However, it's better to save it for the final boss for 2 bars melee, in most cases.

I like to use Ranged LB (And to see it used) just before a pull if pulling the boss will reduce it to zero. That extra 1-2% damage aint much but it's more than a wasted LB Gauge is worth. Casters can do the same thing as well since they can target from a distance.

For HM and any fully party content, you'll do more damage if it's at the full three bars..sometimes in certain battles, depending on how long the encounter goes you can even get off three bars + one bar limit.
You SHOULD use it, but ideally use it at three bars...if it's looking like you won't be able to fill all three bars then go ahead and use it at two or one.

Unless the battle will be over before you can fill another bar, or there is a critical moment you need it for. The general rule of thumb is to wait until all bars are full for much more damage.

Limit Breaks as an opener also have the benefit of dealing a lot of damage with minimal enmity (it's literally a shield lob for the tank to regain aggro after a limit break).
