MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
I find the quality of play in duty finder way more terrifying. Had to vote abandon A1 normal multiple times yesterday, because either people were unable to correctly kill adds or it hit enrage....at 20% left.
DF has been doing fine lately, do sub 20min Expert runs when I can't get frens to come. Smooth oneshots of AN farms, newbs included.
Saying that the few runs that have been bad are usually premake duos that come with a my way or the highway attitude and won't accept the possibility they're in the wrong.
Maybe it's just because I'm rolling the tank master race privilege here, but I cannot say I've had many sour encounters with most people.
Perhaps it's because I am not super vocal about the most minor things that go wrong. A DPS/healer took aggro on something? It's quick work to take it back, if it's even worth doing so before it dies. We failed a boss? Let's hit it again team! We'll learn from the mistakes instead of belittling others and chewing them out over nothing.
Like yes, sometimes I'll kindly point out something, such as a BLM being able to AOE large pulls if they're not, or the Paladin forgot Shield Oath because of Level Sync. And yes, sometimes this is taken very poorly by the recipient. But even if that's the case, I've never escalated an argument in DF to the point where I've been actually kicked. I once ran Keeper of the Lake with a rogue. Everyone thought he was trolling us by not using his job stone. But I earnestly and sincerely talked with him about it, rather than giving some snarky remarks like the others in the group. Turns out he didn't have many friends to show him the way and had no idea about unlocking the ninja job at all! His profile reflected this, it didn't have NIN levels at all. So I told him about it, gave him instructions and directions, all while mid-dungeon. Never really slowed down to talk. I looked his name up on Lodestone a few days later and he's a shining level 60 ninja now! Wish he was on my server...
I have also been on the receiving end of a kind reminder, with some less than kind. It doesn't really matter if you say "Hey you forgot Defiance" or "You dumbass tank meathead turn on tank stance or get kicked" the reply is going to be the same. Something along the lines of "Oh heck sorry about that guys, my bad." And we carry on. So perhaps my demeanor or non-escalation is to thank for all my smooth runs. I try not to be abrasive to anyone, even the most jagged of players. Maybe it's my degree is customer service (yeah you can get a degree for this apparently!) is just bleeding out from the workforce into the game. Killing them with kindness is a great way to keep things going smooth and fun, be it an irate customer or an irate DF pickup.

Anonymity leads to people being jackasses online. This is really nothing new, and has been around since the first MMO.
That said, I tend to remember the better groups I have had than the bad ones. And if there is a troll in your group who is being a detriment to your fun, you have every right to kick them.
Example, had a DRK in A1 who wasn't responding to us or talking, even with the MT asking him if he wants the .5 or the Oppressor. When it came time for the split, the DRK just stood there and continued to DPS Oppressor and standing in all the AoEs and caused us to wipe. We swiftly vote kicked him and got a much better tank.
Praise the good, damn the bad.
I know good players encounter bad players. I'm saying good players don't run into bad attitudes telling them to l2p or uninstall because they are already performing really well. Because of this they don't trigger the bad attitudes from other players.
Mine is from a while ago, but it's my best story of DF stupidity.
It was back when AK HM was in the Expert Roulette. When t13 was endgame and i130 + Relic was BiS. I was trying to do my daily for the Poe, PLD and BRD are buddies, talking sh*t about an FC mate in the party chat. The other DPS is a MNK.
The first three mobs against the wall take a while to die, BRD is too busy talking smack and MNK has poor AoE so his single targeting keeps taking it off the tank. I try to sneak in some Holy's, but the tank stands in every AoE and I don't get more than a couple out between having to heal the MNK and the tank.
Next trash pull, the tank pulls literally everything. The wolves, the goat thing, more wolves, past the vines, all the way to the... mini Rafflesia thing in wall... and then doesn't pop a single buff.
Now, being i130 my cure II's are doing a pretty solid 2.5k. Which was pretty damn strong back then. But not popping a single buff on this trash pull was easily 4k of incoming damage on this tank.
I Benediction this guy, pop Presense of Mind, Divine Seal, even Swiftcast a Cure II. Nope, dead.
He types in a really quick, "Wtf healer?"
And I respond with, "If you're going to pull everything, you need to help me out and pop buffs. I can't heal 4k damage with 2.5k Cure II's and no mitigation."
Oh. My. God. I might as well have insulted this guy's mother.
"You're the worst f*cking healer I have ever seen." "You must have bought your t9 Savage clear." "Learn how to play your class, you dumb b*tch." "SCH's have no problem healing my pal, here."
On and on these two went until I was vote kicked out of the run.
I didn't do Expert Roulette with a pug tank for a month after that. I made my boyfriend tank for me. I still fear that I am going to run into this tank again every time I go into the DF, honestly.
My PUG run on Garuda HM I had as a SCH (that I even left a post of in the Healer Horror Stories thread) came flooding back to me reading that, where all the DPS and both Tanks kept standing in all of Garuda's AoE blasts, and then stupidly blamed both healers (another SCH who was avoiding AoE along with me) for not keeping them alive. I seriously popped 8 to 10 freaking raises in round 1 while keeping the tanks alive from their own stupidity, and I still got vote kicked out.
I had a similar reaction and only wanted friends I trusted to Tank for me for the rest of the day that happened.

[QUOTE=LineageRazor;3294018]On the second DD boss, if the fight is in progress, and the healer doesn't have Swiftcast available (or maybe doesn't even have the ability at all), attempting to raise you will cause the healer to take massive damage, and possibly interrupt their cast anyway. There's no way they're going to be able to cast a long spell like that without getting hit by multple aoes. If the fight is over, you shouldn't WANT a raise - getting one will leave you with the weakness debuff. Release, and use the shortcut to get back.[QUOTE]
I will admit that was something I was not aware of but..the fact near the end that he let the tank die and then still blamed the DPS just kinda took the cake for me.
