I've started a one warning policy and if they do it again I just say "cool you're the tank now" and sit down till they die. Has about a 50/50 rate either they rage out and quit or let me control the pulls.

Either this has been happening for so long I have grown numb to it and just carry on, or I have not noticed it this bad on Balmung. And that is me randomly at the drop of the hat queuing for whatever as whatever job. Although mostly lately it is the 3 CT raids for the weekly, and the first 2 HW dungeons. Maybe that has something to do with it?

I've noticed this, too, and I've been throwing out theory after theory to figure out why people are acting this way. It's not really that they're just rude (we're online, and there are going to be tons of rude people), but it's their M.O. of not saying anything, ignoring anything that is said...and then whining and belittling other players when something goes wrong.

I went into a Trial Roulette yesterday and got Leviathan. Not a hard fight, but I immediately said that I'd only healed the fight. I'd never DPSed it before. Responses bounced between "press buttons" and "hit things, it's not that hard". I figured maybe I was just misreading their tones, so I tried to shrug it off as humor.

And then we wiped. Nobody said anything. We wiped again, because nobody was hitting the generator. And the complaining began, but nobody asked exactly what was happening or who should be activating the switch. They didn't bother to actually communicate; they just complained. That's when I realized that all the responses I got ware not meant to be humorous. The people speaking were just being rude. Even when someone finally did hit it, one player made a sarcastic remark along the lines of, "Wow, that was soooo difficult".

    Really?

I'm not asking for a super-chatty run -- as a matter of fact, I think the amount of times we've had to grind the content in this game has made people less sociable during runs because they just want them to be over with -- but basic communication about why we're dying shouldn't be off-limits.

The entire party was sharing the damage when it was solo. The hand split and I just don't know what happened, suddenly I had to heal until my MP went dry and poor Eos was crying. Some ppl standing with tanks, some out in no man's land. Comments of Stop cleaving the party and You know you can split the dmg rite? seemed contradictory. No one was willing to move their own position to adjust and no one ever recommended a different course of action. Just got on that hate train.

Exactly! Nobody cares until something goes unplanned or, lord forbid, you wipe on a boss that actually required some coordination and you failed to talk it out. Steps brought that out in people so much.

When WoD came out, everyone understood the ABC method. Then suddenly, everyone did what they wanted. The A tank was holding Cerberus, C tank was getting adds, and the B tank was dpsing. Until the C tank stopped getting adds and the raid yelled at the B tank for not doing their job. I remember seeing a lot of this and still don't understand why the incredibly simple ABC method was being ignored.

All behaviors listed in this thread are prevalent in WoW, except this one. Why are people in this game so tight-lipped about mechanics?? In WoW, if someone said they were new, you could at least expect a nominal breakdown of mechanics. Recently, I had a Dzamael run with a new tank. The healer elected to explain each fight with "Dodge" or "dodge the stupd (sic)." He was also the type to pull ahead of the tank, so maybe not the best example.

So how about them Steps of Faith? I fail to see how in a party of 7 people (and me, 50, doing it for MSQ) only one person actually knows about the mechanics of the fight. Any attempts to explain the fight are met with DEAD silence. People repeated the same mistakes with each wipe and we couldn't two-man the mechanics (because I suck qq).

I could probably write an essay about my (overwhelmingly negative) experiences in the Chrysalis.

This silence is really killing me. For all of the negative attitudes attributed to WoW players, you could typically find at least one person in a run to explain things for new people. You used to, anyway. I think MMO communities as a collective are shifting to the "screw noobs" "gogogogooog" attitudes.

Whereas I find it that some cases where you do explain or give tips that zero notice of what you wrote is taken anywho. There are plenty of players who play badly and are not receptive to any form of advice whatsoever which causes a knock on effect of making others think why bother trying to help when it just gets ignored anyways? Like the other day, a DRG in DF, not once did he use heavy thrust, I asked why he didn't use heavy thrust at all as it makes his damage higher. Zero response. Same with a BRD who never used his dots or Minuet throughout the whole run and zero response when asked about it. Get enough players like that in succession and the will to help falls.

If you had non receptive players for 10 DFs would you be willing to try it again with the 11th? Most won't.

I honestly don't care if people are having bad connection issues being the reason for a wipe, I get it, it happens. People were just making an observation without much snark. It gets really annoying when people start to argue about it in the middle of an encounter. I mean, really, argue before the pull or after, not during the fight. I don't get into arguments like that, as it doesn't serve anything but to mess with the flow of the group. I just want people to do their damned job. Criticism happens, and it can suck, but I don't go out of my way to ruin it for everyone else. Apparently acting maturely is hard for some people.
Some peoples Egos are oh so fragile.

Basically as its been said, they are hidden from any real repercussions of their actions. They can be as big and bad as they want with no worry when in a real setting they would be the ones not speaking up at all. I would love to say this may change but I don't see it happening. People take this game way to seriously and treat it like a job that must be done perfectly 100% of the time, first time or not. I've seen so many green leafs get kicked who didn't deserve it (though I have seen those who you just can't help too), people trying to be helpful but the way it is, the person most likely to be heard and followed is the one to speak up first and proclaim "This is what were doing!" either by activating the Vote Abandon or Vote Kick.

Unfortunately, this is the internet. People will behave in ways that they never would while out in public. The only thing we can do is to hug the leafs, show them the ropes, and hope that they know that not everyone is an asshole. It irks me so much when a veteran player will move so fast that a new player cannot experience the way we experienced the game. Well, most of us I should say. Got a friend working his way through the ARR story right now to get to Heavensward and he skips everything.
