Historically speaking, a few things could happen depending on the recency of the territories conquest. Older territories that dont remember a time of not being conquered would be absorbed by another country nearby, or would be cut up into new countries by a combination of their own and outside influence like what happened to Prussia. the more recent conquests such as ala migo would more likely be re-established as their own indepenedent governing body with their old borders, and would be assisted by outside allies in rebuilding and stabilizing their original or a new government. That could happen to the older conquests too, but is unlikely.

No conquest is older than 55 years. Garlemald was a small republic 55 years ago before they invented (or found) magitec technology.

Again, what do you base this on? Prior to the Garlean invasion, Eorzea was relatively peaceful. Ul'dah didn't even have a dedicated national army beyond the sultansworn which made up a small number. The Immortal Flames originally had to be tacked together from various mercenary outfits.

...it wasn't peaceful. The Ala Mhigans were trying to take over the rest of Eorzea and the Ishgardians were locked in a holy war that we now know was based on false ideals.

Actually yes they were having civil unrest but it wasn't until the Garleans sent their agents in to poke the hornets nest that things just blew up.

Not to mention the only thing Gridaniea had to really worry about wer the elementals. And Limsa making sure that trade ran ok with out the Sahagain causing problems. It was very peaceful there wer no true army's in any of the city states.

It sucks that that didn't last they again messed everything up by sending a loon who was possessed by a big dragon to drop a moon on us Its silver tear alover again people.. Maybe next catastrophe they intend to do they will send us a memo.

Your point? They wer stopped the territory that they managed to take wer given back to Gridania the Alliance didn't take any of theirs in return.

The Empire fits the Knight Templar trope almost to a T. Their initial cause of wanting to rid the world of Primals (and the Ascians if I'm remembering my 1.0 lore correctly) is all well and good, but the horrible ways they go about trying to achieve their goal isn't acceptable. This request is also assuming the Empire would even want an "ally". They don't want allies, they want subjects. They've always taken a hardlined "conform or die" approach and it doesn't seem like Varis zos Galvus will be changing that stance any time soon.

If we did join them we would be forced to join their military, our characters as the Warrior of Light would probably be executed for possessing the Echo (our "gift" makes us just as bad as the Beastmen as far as they're concerned), and I don't remember the Empire being very kind to the non-Garlean races under their rule so I don't imagine anyone else who wasn't killed would be treated very well even if they submitted without a fight.

Yeah, I think I could do without joining the Empire in any capacity.
