    AMD R9 390 Freezing Issue

I recently purchased a AMD R9 390 and since I installed I have not been able to get the Direct X 11 client to work. It freezes up within seconds of loading into the game. I was using a GTX 760 before and it worked fine.

I have completely removed all the drivers and reloaded them, it still doesn't work. The game works in direct x 9 mode. I have already reported this issue to AMD as I suspect is a driver issue but is anyone else with the 390 able to get the game to work in DX11?

Hey I have the same card paired with an i7 4790s and z97. I get freezes on the new heavensward content, like if I teleport to any new areas I get a freeze where my system will lock up and a hard reset is imposed. But lately I have been getting freezing all throughout Eorzea. Everything is water cooled, below 50C even on a 24/7 load from other games. So I know it's not a heating issue, nor a hardware issue.

I suspect we will be sitting for a while longer before AMD takes notice to start fixing the problem. We all know how AMD is and there late timing with driver implementations.

    I've tried on 7, 8, 8.1, and 10.

DX9 is the sure way to go, but instead of teleportation freezes I get random freezes at around 30 mins. But geeze I'm baffled. If you find a work around, let me know. I'll do the same!

Did you make sure your PSU was up to the task? That 390 can consume more than double that of the 760 under full loads--saw some tests tracking peaks exceeding 400 watts even. That is just for the graphics...in addition to the consumption of over devices on the PCI-E bus, memory, CPU, drives, USB, cooling...

Need a pretty strong and stable power supply to run that card with all subsystems full throttle like this game will do because it isn't optimized as well as many other games out there these days.

The crashing after 30 minutes sounds kind of like the old memory management problem in the drivers. May be able to mitigate it somewhat with things that reduce the memory usage--textures, LOD stream cache, etc.

I remember reading on the AMD forums that the more people who complain about an issue, the better chances of them looking at it, especially if it is a common problem.

The problem with R9 390 series crashing in DX11 is not specific to just FFXIV. It is a driver problem that currently affects the 390 specifically DX11 games. I've already reported this issue to AMD back with the 390 series released in June. I even have a youtube video demonstrating the problem.

The workaround is to disable hardware acceleration in applications that use it such as web browsers, VLC, outlook, media player, etc. Otherwise running the game in DX9 will result in no crash.

I don't think thats a problem about 390 series. I'm currently using 390x also. Playing Witcher 3 etc. without any problems. But also i have similar problem. Its not happening when i'm playing tho. Its just when i use alt-tab afterwards when i return to game it crashes. Also have a post about it.

I have a r9 380 that only crashes in DX11. It happens in win7 and win10. I haven't attempted a clean win10 install yet was hoping driver updates or FF14 patches would fix the problem. I have tested tomb raider and it doesn't not crash. I have tried the hardware acceleration disabling but has no effect. You are not alone I have read countless postings regarding r9 380, r9 390 and gtx 970's crashing FF14 in DX11, however, I see more problem fixed results with the 970's.

Problem continues even with todays beta driver release 15.8

    Same issues

so ya i got xfx black edition r9 390 about a week ago. uninstalled all drivers installed fresh. then i got bsod about 10 mins into game play, which happened 3x in a row. found something about the gaming enhanced crashing it so i removed raptor. played fine for a while but now i randomly get driver failure resulting in ffxiv crashing. at least its not bsod anymore. but this is definitely a driver issue.

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever (you get the idea) let that bugged piece of donkey diarrhoea known as AMD Raptor run whilst playing FFXIV. It will BSOD, it will crash, it will destroy your frame rate and more.

How that junk got out of alpha testing and into the wild is beyond me. I hate it with a passion. 95% of my problems were solved by disabling that filth.

Hope you take something away from that rant! =3
