I'm thoroughly disappointed in the overall selection in final designs more than anything. Not one of the male hairstyles to vote on was a short, stylish, masculine cut. Something I've felt for some time now that I'd like to see. After seeing the one shared in the live letter recently, I was excited to be able to vote for it, and when the selection was posted... no where to be seen.

No one is knocking any individual design, but the variety, the method of selection, and the clear fact that some of them did not meet the guidelines given for the contest; those we have every right to call into question.

I tend to avoid hairstyles with accessories in them in general, preferring those to be glamour type items, like the glasses are.

And that gods awful thick fringe bangs crap clips with every single circlet type headpiece in the game and it looks terrible.

I didn't enter the contest, so my displeasure has nothing to do with my entry not being picked and everything to do with the fact that I'd been hoping this would be a chance to inject some variety into the hairstyle options we have.

When I first created my character, I was very disappointed by how few short hair (chin length or shorter) options there were for Midlanders. I know I'm hardly the only one who wants more short hair, too. I figured that at least some of those other people would submit short hair to the contest.

... and then we get a grand total of two short options to vote on, one of which is rather similar to a couple of things we already have. That's not variety.

There were some great short styles shown in the other thread and the Live Letter. I would've been happy if ANY of them had made the cut for the finalists-- basically, if we'd had a more balanced selection instead of 98% of the options being long hair, which is already the case with the hairstyles we have.

Of course, KasKatta, I would never ask for support to shame or belittle our finalist. We are on the same page for motive.

Cause nobody can be happy on what they get. Instead lets light the torches and grab pitch forks and charge, I say let it be accept it.

Accepting any scraps we get with a smile on our face, sitting down and shutting up, and avoiding criticizing doesn't sound like a healthy environment to encourage. In fact, that sounds an awful lot like a certain government regime. One that has not turned out well.

We shouldn't have to do those things to be accepted or heard. What's the point anyways in being heard if you aren't allowed to criticize without being ignored? Criticism is just as important as praise, moreso even. No, I think people speaking their mind is a good thing. And any company wanting to improve things should be of a like mind. Especially when suggestions are made in addition to criticism, as people have been doing.

Don't you know Criticizing SE staff is against the rules?

My cousin was temp banned for talking about something not worth getting banned for he actually thinks he was being singled out due to having a SNK sig due to them being in a law suit and GM's kept banning him for reasons till he was off forums then went into his account and removed the sig.

He kinda laughed said forums are a joke due to rules are messed up any troll or person could get someone banned for a simple comment.
Though the Troll himself who makes the thread with the questions doesn't get banned but the person who gave the answer is.

Plus the fact they lock off contest and tech support from banned people, this isn't a open forum like you think it is we can't just do what we want.
Remember you gotta watch what you say or get your mouth washed out with soap by the GM's just a tiny slip up and they'll use any excuse to ban you.

By the way the criticizing thing my cousin was banned for he basically said that something in the game made people lazy he got a email stating he criticized staff and was temp banned but he said he was talking to a person who said he didn't wanna do runs and he said it made that person lazy makes no sense the word lazy isn't bad why he think it was the SNK sig this whole time.

I read the email said he was a threat to the community isn't that defamation of character? idk anyways peace out and also SE doesn't do petitions read that some place.

Yes, it is. As I said though, rarely do I see SE staff being criticized. It's usually general criticism of the company as an entity, and its choices. I never criticize particular staff members or the staff in general for example.

Ignoring criticism and forbidding it entirely is a great way to ensure your company has no idea what fans really want though. Not to mention, it's counter to the concept of a free and progressing society. But oh well, there's nothing we can do about that.

I don't see a problem with allowing tasteful and constructive criticism. And seeing as I have yet to be silenced, I think SE is willing to listen to constructive criticism. I know they have in the past for complaints others have had, and that's a good thing.

But that's just my experience, can't speak for everyone.

So I guess we should have just blindly accepted FFXIV 1.0, hm? I know, that and this are completely different, but criticism does help others to improve in future endeavours.

If SE were to start another hairstyle contest, they should split it up into short, medium and long hairstyle options and when the finalists are shown, they're spread evenly so then we can have a top three finalist vote (one short, one medium and one long). SE should also make it a requirement to only make hairstyles on the race templates they provide (and make it Midlander and Highlander templates). I feel some people voted for how nice the art looks, rather than just the hairstyle itself.

I also snooped into the Japanese forums and saw that some players there are also a little disappointed with how the contest was handled.
