    Class Restrictions in Wolves Den

I've played PVP in a variety of games, and this alone attributes to why (while I am an avid PVPer) that I will not fight in the Wolf's Den.

Already as it is FFXIV is a problem with homogenizing classes, raid parties and dungeon parties.

In Wolf's Den you are restricted to having a tank, a healer, a ranged DPS and a physical DPS.

We can't really 'spec' in this game (which is a huge part of most MMORPG PVP experiences) so players should at least have the option in creating their OWN combination of party members.

I would also attribute this restriction to dissuading groups of friends who have, say a Black Mage and a Bard, on a team from playing. It has for me. The constraints make the battlefield extremely formulaic and offers no opportunity for a 'meta' or creativity of any kind to form.

Thoughts and support please. I think Wolf's Den could be great, but at the moment goes against the appeal of team based PVP.

I think when wolves den first came out there were serious balance issues which led to the restriction of 1 ranged, 1 melee dps (ex: Summoners being able to cast raise), but I don't think this is an issue any longer. I think removing the 1 ranged / 1 melee restriction would be great, and it might also be fine lifting the 1 tank restriction.

There would be serious issues if you were allowed to have more than 1 healer, such as games lasting forever, but outside of this it would be great if you were allowed to change jobs within the staging area before the gates opened. There are incentives to have more well-rounded parties (VIT buff / support from tanks, strong burn from melee dps, CC from ranged) which would keep most groups balanced while allowing people to try out some interesting party compositions. The current system of diminishing CC resist would also help avoid job stacking.

Never!! This prevents sleep locks from running 3 blk mages and a healer, burst parties like 2 MRD/2SMN. You must've not played WD from its onset. We needed this balance.

I also think it's worth trying out the first season by removing the 1 ranged and 1 melee dps restriction to allow more variety. As Blubbers said, having more than 1 healer on teams could lead to very long and boring matches, so I think the 1 healer/1 tank format should still be in there, but not the dps restriction.

They are planning to make a Wolves Den II if i recall.

Having more than 1 Healer would make the matches longer - so no to this.

The dps restriction isnt needed anymore - Yes to this.

@nickx - They have balanced out a few things so it might not be so bad, and classes such as MNK and DRG does well against SMNs and BLM. So there are multiple different comps people can use vs other groups. There of course will be a most popular comp, but thats not gonna stop people from running with their own.

In my opinion I prefer imbalance in pvp. Its OP teams and class's that create a challenge, make you change how you play your class so its not so generic. Saying that, fair enough if a group of healers or maybe a group of tanks or nuke groups would be a bit annoying, I would be happy if they simply went back to 1 healer 1 tank 2 DPS (of any kind).
WD pretty much died when they restricted it so much, it was like saying you cant play with your friends any more or play interesting setups. The arena is a strategic for of team based play and limiting it is like saying jump in a boxing ring and have a fight only with one arm tied behind your back...its no fun let us play with both arm's!

The main reason for the restriction no longer exists (triple resurrect comps)

I think allowing the restriction to be lifted will just allow the truely overpowering comps to be the meta, that being said i have no issue against lifting it for the first season

Sorry op but it sounds like u never played wolves den when it came out. They put those restrictions to prevent matches from never ending lol.
Ppl stacked smns for swiftcast raise chaining it was so dumb lol.
With 1 melee and 1 range dps u wont be left out of the meta.
    Because before it was
blm & smn > other dps.
Blm sleep nuke then party zerg healer. If party is dying smn will rez healer or whoever that died etc.
it was a good call on se to take away raise from smn. The thing is tho removing restrictions can either be really good or bad. So how players will abuse it is up to them.
