    Perception and rarity/collectability

I'm unable to find comprehensive information on this, I'm wondering the highest perception that is useful for increasing your rarity bonus when gathering collectibles.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone has gotten better than these numbers:

    Methodical Appraisal: +115
Discerning Eye + Methodical Appraisal: +172

I've been told it works in tiers so I've been trying to find where the next tier is, or if there is one at all. I'm up to 706 perception without getting any different numbers, although I could definitely go higher. Does anyone know if it is even possible to get better numbers?

Edit: just found this thread, seems to suggest there is a cap!

Yeah there's been a few threads describing the cap, or values of perception needed to hit it. The search function on these forums kind of sucks tho..

With 706 perception you should cap at 115 on all collectible items, including folklore. Folklore cap around 700, but I've not tested the exact value myself.

It caps around 600 for adaman/crysahl. I'm at 587 on my mules, and they are just under cap getting ~112 for methodical.

as Aeyis states, 700 perception to cap on 1-star collectability sounds about right, and every item caps at 115 for an unbuffed methodical; 103 for an unbuffed impulsive.

For the perception caps on other items:
    lv56: around 535-539 perception
    lv58: around 560-563 perception
lv60: used to be around 630 perception, but as of 3.05 I'm not sure; as suggested above it sounds like it should be around 600-610 perception
lv60 1-star: as stated above, at most 700 or so, but I estimate the lower end to be around 690 based on data I've collected for the other items.

    hope this helps

There shouldn't be a cap at all. What is the point of the new gathering gear then? Why prevent us from gathering 3 adamantite/chysahl collectables, etc? Right now there is pretty much no use to this new gatherer gear. Sure, you can make some increases on gathering/perception on legendary nodes. But what is the point? If I gathered from say... 10 legendary nodes per day, about 9 of the 10 HQs I harvest would not be bought. I don't need better gathering stats to do what I'm doing. And the fact that I'm getting 172 on DE/MA without any upgrades and the same with the MH tool and crafted OH tool... I don't really understand why these items even exist? Why the bogus cap?

A really good point, there doesn't seem to be a practical reason to have anything better than the level 60 gear. Then again, the gear will take a pretty good amount of time for most people to get, so maybe they intend to add some more challenging gathering things in the next patch, and it will be more relevant.

You don't need the 2 star (or bought) stuff for the current nodes.

You will likely need them for the 3.1 nodes, or 3.15, or 3.2, whenever they add new crafting recipes and new nodes to go with them.

All I can guess is that the devs wanted 2-4 collectibles to be the absolute maximum, similar to the 15% HQ cap. I don't really see the point since collectibles are are not tradable, don't stack, etc. It would only allow gatherers who've invested a lot into gear to shave off a couple of trips per week and nothing more.

Currently better gear is only useful to get you to the highest cap (not quite 700). If you're already there and there's still more to buy (I'm not there so I forget what you need) you're just gearing up for level 60 2-star nodes when they happen.

Hopefully this. They did mention that with the airship content that once an island has been cleared (combat) gatherers will also have something to do. Perhaps this is where being fully geared will be useful, though I hope it's not just more collectibles.
